Technologies are described herein for grouping products by size and weight. A customer-facing user interface is provided to a user that allows the user to browse and search products in a merchant system in order to identify products having similar size and weight. An extension to the customer-facing user interface facilitates the grouping of the products having similar size and weight into product groups. A source product is selected for each product group. The source product is used by the merchant system as the source for dimensional data for the products in the product group.

Grouping products by size and weight

Disclosed are various embodiments for facilitating packing and vehicle loading for order fulfillment. A number of totes associated with each one of a plurality of orders fulfilled in a fulfillment center are tracked in a computing resource. Each of the orders specifies at least one item. A plurality of compartment assignments in a delivery vehicle are generated for the totes associated with each of the orders, the delivery vehicle having a plurality of storage compartments.

Packing and vehicle loading for order fulfillment

Technologies are described herein for optimizing pick-to-tote operations. Each pick location for items in an inventory picking area is assigned a sequence number representing a relative position along a pick path through the inventory picking area. A number of tote pick lists are selected from a set of pending pick lists for the pick-to-tote operation, such that the range of sequence numbers across all the pick locations identified in the selected pick list is minimized. In this way, the required distance inventory personnel must travel along the pick path while picking the specified items and placing them into totes is reduced.

Pick-to-tote optimization

Technologies are described herein for generating container plans for multi-item orders. The items of the order are divided into zones, where the zones may determine the picking zone and/or packaging requirements for the item. Zone-based container plans are generated for the items in the order associated with each individual zone. The container plan includes an assignment of each item to one or more logical shipping containers. A mixed container plan is also generated for all the items in the order regardless of the associated zone. If the number of logical shipping containers in the mixed container plan is less than the total number of logical shipping containers in the zone-based container plans, then a final container plan for the order is generated from the mixed container plan. Otherwise, the final container plan is generated by combining the zone-based plans for each zone associated with items in the order.

Generating container plans for multi-item orders

Various systems and methods are described for insertion of optional stops in delivery routes. To this end, a plurality of delivery routes is provided in a computing device, where each delivery route has a plurality of stops. A determination is made in the computing devices as to whether an optional stop can be inserted between a pair of the stops in at least one of the delivery routes without violating a predefined set of criteria. The optional stop is ultimately inserted between a respective pair of stops in a selected one of the delivery routes.
