An antenna assembly includes a ground plane and an element coupled to the ground plane. The element has a center point, a first element portion extending away from the center point on a first side of the center point for a first distance in a first direction, bending at a first approximately 180 degree bend, extending towards the center point for a second distance in a second direction, bending at a second approximately 180 degree bend, and extending away from the center point for a third distance in the first direction. The element also has a second element portion provided on a second side of the center point opposite the first element portion on the first side of the center point, the second element portion being substantially a mirror image of the first element portion. The element also includes a ground leg located on the first side of the center point a first distance from the center point, extending substantially perpendicular to the first and second element portions, and coupling the element to the ground plane and a feed leg located on the second side of the center point a second distance from the center point, the feed leg extending substantially parallel to the ground leg.

Multi-band low profile antenna with low band differential mode

A coupled slot probe antenna for use with antenna structures in mobile communication devices, such as cellular telephones and other wireless communication devices. The coupled slot probe antenna includes at least one first conductive element, and a second conductive element coupled between the first conductive element and the printed circuit board (PCB) ground plane of the mobile communication device. The first and second conductive elements define a tunable coupled slot area and the coupled slot probe antenna is coupled to the PCB ground plane in such a way that the coupled slot area is near a low-impedance point of the antenna structure, wherein coupling therebetween improves the bandwidth and the efficiency of the antenna structure. The coupled slot area can be tuned by changing the size of the coupled slot area and by changing the position of the coupled slot area relative to the low-impedance point of the antenna structure.

The mobile communication device can include a housing having an exterior, the exterior including a first face side and a second face side, the second face side located on an opposite side of the housing from the first face side, a first display disposed on the first face side, a numeric keypad disposed on the first face side, a second display disposed on the second face side, and a text keypad disposed on the second face side. The numeric keypad can be a telephone keypad such as a dual-tone multiple-frequency (DTMF) keypad and text keypad can be a QWERTY keypad, such as a keypad having a layout similar to a typical typewriter-style keyboard. The housing can be a candy bar phone style housing.
