There is disclosed a unique water treatment system which incorporates a unique primary valve. The primary valve comprises an interconnected first part and second part. The first part attaches to a water source and provides untreated water to water treatment units which are controlled by the second part of the primary valve. Untreated water flows to a first water treatment unit and subsequently through a valve to the second part of the primary valve and to use or to a second water treatment unit. From the second water treatment unit the water flows to the second part of the primary valve and to use. The second part of the primary valve has a unique bore and slideable shaft valve structure. The water treatment units can purify the water and/or add substances to the water.

Valve for use in a water treatment system

The invention is directed to point of use devices and appliances for alkalizing water that is to be ingested. The devices comprise straws, carafes, countertop units, water bottle units, and any other devices that will treat the water at the point of use. The water will flow through the point of use devices or appliances longitudinally or radially. The point of use device or appliance will contain an alkalizing formulation that will increase the pH of the water to preferably above about 8. The amount of water that can be treated will depend on the amount of alkalizing formulation used and the size and capacity of the device or appliance for the alkalizing formulation. The alkalizing formulation will supply to the water being treated one or more of potassium, calcium, and magnesium ions. The water prior to contacting the treatment compound can be filtered through a purification formulation to remove particulates, heavy metals, and various organic compounds. The purification formulation can be a form of activated carbon.

Appliances for the alkalizing of water

A container for magnetically activating water comprises a container having recesses as a part of the structure of the container, each of the recesses containing a magnet. The recesses and the magnets can be arranged in a set array in the structure of the container or can be in a random array. The recesses and the magnets preferably are in the sidewall of the container, but can additionally be in the bottom surface of the container. The magnets can be maintained within the recesses by a band that surrounds the recesses and the magnets, or by the magnets and the recesses having structures whereby the magnets are held within the recesses. A band also can be used to secure the magnets in the recesses. The recesses and magnets can be of essentially any compatible shape. Preferably the container is generally round and may have a gripping region.

Aqueous liquid treatment

A plurality of magnets can be positioned around a container through the use of a plurality of holders that can be releaseably positioned around the container. Each holder has an area compatible in shape to the magnet to hold a magnet. The base of the holder which contracts the container is of a shape compatible to that of the container. There is at least one aperture on at least two sides of the holder. A strap is placed through the apertures and secured at each end. This secures the magnets to the container. The holder can have a flexible base portion or can itself be flexible. The holders can be at an angle of about 150&#xb0; to about 210&#xb0; to the axis of the container. The magnets can be positioned in various polar arrays around the container. The container will hold an aqueous liquid either in a static or flow condition. The container can be a bottle, pipe conduit and/or a filter within pipe conduit system.

A flat filter assembly may be installed in relatively narrow spaces which would otherwise be wasted such as the space beside a kitchen cabinet and the basin of a kitchen sink, inside a freezer door or on a countertop. The filter assembly includes a housing, preferably U-shaped, having a plurality of transversely extending ribs, formed in the opposed side walls of the housing, which reinforce the housing and which cause a generally serpentine flow of water through the housing during operation of the filter. Protrusions preferably are formed in the housing in addition to the ribs to strengthen further the housing and to aid in preventing the formation of channels through the granulated filter medium contained within the housing. The filter housing is preferably manufactured via a blow molding process.

Modular flat filter assembly and method of making same

A multiple tank filtration system can be backflushed to remove the material on the loaded adsorbent at a high rate of liquid flow through the use of a tank connecting distributor which has pervious projections extending therefrom into both the first and second tanks. The pervious projections extending into the first tank are less than those which extend into the second tank. This provides for a greater flow of liquid during backwash.

A very effective adsorption composition has been produced for the removal of heavy metal ions, halocarbons, aromatic organics, radon and microbiological substances from water. This adsorption composition consists of up to 7 different components. These include aluminum silicate, diatomite, granulated activated carbon, catalytic chlorine removal media, tri-sodium phosphate, bone charcoal and activated alumina. This adsorption composition has a tri-disperse structure. By this it is meant it has three different types of pores. The adsorption composition is utilized by being packaged into cartridges, containers and alike where it is held in place while contaminated water passes through the adsorption composition and the contaminants are removed.
