A substrate, such as, for example, a flap member of a pinch-bottom product bag, and a method of making the same, comprises a hot melt adhesive disposed upon the substrate so as to comprise first horizontally spaced upstanding portions whereby adhesive blocking is effectively eliminated or significantly reduced. A fiberized hot melt adhesive overcoat/overspray may also be disposed atop the hot melt adhesive to further assure the elimination or reduction in the adhesive blocking. The fiberized hot melt adhesive may also be used in conjunction with a conventionally applied hot melt adhesive base or foundation upon the substrate or deposited directly onto the substrate.

A fluid dispensing system includes a first fluid supply device for supplying a first fluid, a second fluid supply device for supplying a second fluid, a first heater for heating the first fluid to a first predetermined temperature and a second heater for heating the second fluid to a second predetermined temperature. The dispensing system further includes a nozzle for dispensing the first fluid and the second fluid, the nozzle dispensing the first fluid and the second fluid in intimate contact with one another, the first and second fluids being dispensed at a dispensing temperature, and a nozzle heater, the nozzle heater maintaining the nozzle at a third predetermined temperature independent of the first and/or second predetermined temperatures.

The disclosure relates to a security zipper and bag, or one-time closable zipper and bag, and methods of manufacture thereof, wherein the zipper includes double zipper profiles with a layer or strip of adhesive positioned between the two interlocking elements of one of the zipper profiles. Upon the one-time closing of the zipper, the adhesive secures the two double zipper profiles together and prevents a subsequent opening of the zipper or bag without leaving evidence of such opening, such as damage to the zipper or bag. Alternately, adhesive can be provided within the female profiles, with a liner over the adhesive to prevent premature activation.

A bulk material product bag has an adhesive closure strip fixedly secured thereon. As a result of the adhesive closure strip being oriented transversely across the normally open end region of the bulk material product bag so as to be adhesively bonded to both the back and front sides of the bulk material product bag, the adhesive closure strip effectively closes and seals the open end region of the bulk material product bag. A security zipper is provided, which includes a consumer side zipper pair and a product side zipper pair, where each zipper pair is capable of secure mating. Between the zipper pairs is an intermediate flange pair which is layered with an adhesive as well as an adhesive enhancer to securely connect the intermediate flange pair. A slider is provided over the consumer side zipper pair, the product side zipper pair and the intermediate flange pair which mates the zipper pairs and connects the intermediate flanges so that the zipper is securely closed. A bag is also disclosed, which includes the security zipper and a connected product side pouch. In addition, a method for manufacturing the bag is disclosed.

A plate member, which may be a die plate or a shim, which is adapted to be used within a fluid material dispensing system, such as, for example, a system for dispensing or distributing adhesives upon substrates, is provided with a plurality of apertures equally spaced along the longitudinal extent thereof. The apertures comprise a plurality of through-bores for respectively receiving a plurality of fasteners, which are adapted to secure the plate member to a support structure, for example, an adhesive manifold or the like. In addition to the through-bores, milled slots are also provided within the plate member, the milled slots connecting the through-bores to a free edge portion of the plate member. In this manner, when the plate member is to be removed from the support structure so as to be replace with a new or different plate member, the fasteners need only be untightened, but not removed from the support structure, the plate member can be slidably removed from the support structure, a new plate member can be slidably mounted upon the support structure, and the fasteners are then re-tightened. The process of simply untightening the fasteners but not having to completely remove the same from the support structure, and then re-tightening the fasteners, saves considerable operating time and eliminates tedious work for operator personnel.

A carton, and a method of assembling the same, is disclosed wherein the carton closures or flaps have adhesive applied to or deposited upon particular regions thereof such that the adhesive does not interfere with or foul conveyor or support mechanisms use in connection with the carton assembling or erection equipment carton is erected or assembled in accordance with reverse-fold techniques wherein each end of the carton to be sealed has a first inside major flap folded inwardly, a pair of oppositely disposed minor end flaps are then folded inwardly so as to be disposed atop opposite end portions of the first inside major flap, and a second outside major flap is then folded inwardly so as to be disposed upon the minor end flaps as well as covering that portion of the first inside major flap remaining uncovered by the folded minor end flaps. Longitudinally offset adhesive blocks or patches are provided upon the inside surface of the second outside major flap so as to seal the second outside major flap to the minor end flaps and the inside major flap along the joint or junction lines defined between the pair of minor flaps and the inside major flap. Additional adhesive caulking lines, and embossed or debossed regions, may be provided along the proximal and distal edge portions of the first inside and second outside major flaps so as to complete perimeter seals for the carton ends whereby the carton is rendered sift-proof in connection with powder or granular materials.

A method and adhesive pattern for reverse folding and sealing a carton that enables the carton to be sift proof, the method including providing a carton having a first open end including first and second inside and outside major flaps and a pair of opposing minor flaps. The minor flaps and outside major flap are initially folded in an open position and the first inside major flap is folded to cover the open end of the carton. Multiple beads of adhesive are then applied with a non-contact application head to selected areas of the first inside major flap, the second outside major flap and both of the minor flaps. The minor flaps are then folded on top of the first inside major flap and the second outside major flap is folded on top of the minor flaps to provide sealing contact between the flaps about the entire periphery of the first open end so that the carton is sift proof.

A method of folding and sealing the major and minor end flaps of a carton to provide a sift proof container wherein the method includes providing a carton having first and second inside and outside major flaps and a pair of minor flaps, and folding the minor flaps to substantially cover an open end of the carton. Opposite sides of the first inside major flap are then mitered and both the first and second major flaps are positioned in open positions with respect to the carton. The carton is then put in motion and, during such motion, an adhesive pattern is applied from a stationary adhesive nozzle member to selected areas of the second outside major flap and the minor flaps. The first inside major flap is then folded onto the minor flaps followed by the second outside major flap which provides direct sealing contact between the second outside major flap and both minor flaps as well as portions of the first inside major flap so as to provide the sift proof carton.
