Radar localization systems and methods are provided to determine the location of an object. The radar localization systems and methods can determine the location of an object based on data obtained from at least two radar measurements made by the radar localization device. In some embodiments, a radar localization system can be included in a wireless communications system that conducts both wireless communications and radar sensing. Radar localization systems include at least a computing unit that performs a radar localization method. Radar localization methods may use map data in object localization to eliminate non-feasible locations of the object.

An integrated circuit comprising a package, phased antenna array and die. The die comprises a plurality of unit cells, wherein each unit cell is divided into quadrants. Each quadrant comprises a receiver terminal located on a first axis, and a transmitter terminal located on a second axis, wherein the first axis is orthogonal to the second axis, and there is mirror symmetry between the nearest neighbour quadrants in the unit cell. The package comprises a plurality of pairs of feed lines, each pair of feed lines comprising a receiver feed line and a transmitter feed line. The receiver feed line is connected to one of the receiver terminals and the transmitter feed line is connected to the transmitter terminal in the same die quadrant. The receiver feed line is orthogonal to the transmitter feed line. Each antenna element is coupled to a respective pair of feed lines.

An antenna system for a mobile communications base station and a method of operating a communications network including a base station is described. The antenna system includes an antenna array for beamforming and is configured either as a radar sensor, a communications antenna or a combined radar sensor. A radar image may be used to determine a map of objects in the vicinity of the antenna system and to adapt the beamsteering or beamforming of the antenna system.

A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system for a mobile cellular network and method is described. The MIMO antenna system includes an array of dual-polarization patch antennas each having first and second polarization feed-points, a first polarization radio chain and a second polarization radio chain. The MIMO antenna system includes a beamformer coupled to the first and second polarization radio chains. The beamformer includes a beamformer channel for a respective feedpoint and further includes a transmit amplifier and a detector (coupler) coupled to a transmit amplifier output. In one mode of operation, a signal is transmitted via the first polarization feed-point of a dual-polarisation patch antennas and a replica of the transmitted signal may be sensed using the coupler at the output of the transmit amplifier and routed via the second polarization radio chain to a digital predistortion module. The digital pre-distortion module is configured to digitally pre-distort a signal for transmission dependent on the replica of the RF signal.

MIMO antenna system and method

An antenna system for a mobile communications base station and a method of operating a communications network including a base station is described. The antenna system includes an antenna array for beamforming and is configured either as a radar sensor, a communications antenna or a combined radar sensor. A radar image may be used to determine a map of objects in the vicinity of the antenna system and to adapt the beam-steering or beamforming of the antenna system.

A lamp is provided that is controlled by messages transmitted via a network. The lamp has an internal memory that stores an address and an internal control circuit that responds to received messages that refer to this address. The address is updated when the lamp is installation in a power supply socket, using for example an address from the first message that is transmitted after installation. The lamp contains a detector that detects disconnection of the lamp from the power supply socket, for example by monitoring a resistance value between two parts of one of the power supply terminals of the lamp. In response to this detection the control circuit of the lamp sets information that enables an update of the address in the memory. When it is detected that the lamp is again connected to a power supply socket the address is updated on condition that the update is enabled.

Message controllable lamp

A distance measurement arrangement provides a distance indication based on a delay between an electromagnetic signal, transmitted in a transmission mode, and a reflection of the electromagnetic signal, received in a reception mode. The distance measurement arrangement includes an antenna module having a plurality of antennas for transmitting the electromagnetic signal and for receiving the reflection. A beam-forming module defines respective magnitude and phase relationships with respect to respective antennas so as to cause the antenna module to provide a directional antenna pattern in at least one the two modes. A beam-forming and steering control module controls the respective magnitude and phase relationships as a function of a direction command. A 3-D picture can be formed by applying respective direction commands so as to obtain respective distance indications for respective portion in a two-dimensional picture.

Distance measurement

The present invention relates to a polar modulation apparatus and method, in which an in-phase and a quadrature-phase signal are processed in the analog domain to generate an analog signal corresponding to a derivative of a phase component of said polar-modulated signal. The analog signal is then input to a control input of a controlled oscillator (). As an example, the processing may be based on a differentiate-and-multiply algorithm in the analog domain. Thereby, phase and envelope signals are generated in the analog domain and bandwidth enlargement due to the processing of the polar signals and corresponding aliasing can be prevented to obtain a highly accurate polar-modulated output signal.
