A fuel system that provides fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a fuel tank and a fuel pump configured to receive fluid from the fuel tank and supply pressurized fluid to the engine via a fuel filter. The filter receives fuel from the pump and provides filtered fuel to the engine. The filter is disposed in a filter chamber of a filter housing. The filter housing includes a fuel inlet that directs fuel received from the fuel pump into the filter chamber, a fuel outlet that directs filtered fuel received from the fuel filter to the fuel supply line, and a bypass outlet that directs fuel not drawn into the fuel filter by the internal combustion engine to a fuel pressure regulator. The regulator receives the unfiltered fuel from the bypass outlet and returns the unfiltered fuel to the fuel tank.

Filter housing for a fuel filter

A vehicle fuel tank assembly includes a fuel tank and an electrically conductive top plate that closes and seals a fuel-fill opening in the fuel tank. The top plate includes electrical dissipation structures and features that allow for electrical charge dissipation of the fuel tank to an external structure such as the vehicle chassis. The dissipation structures include an electrically insulative carrier that is partially embedded in the top plate using an overmolding process, and an electrical conductor that is supported by the carrier. The electrical conductor provides an electrical connection between the top plate and the chassis that is independent of the fuel tank and the fuel tank mounting structure.

Vehicle fuel tank assembly

A fuel tank assembly includes a fuel tank and a fuel pump module. The module supports a fuel pump that delivers fuel to an engine of a vehicle, and includes a module housing that provides a cavity that receives the fuel pump, a reservoir that is actively filled with excess fuel discharged from a fuel pressure regulator, and a fuel return passageway that directs excess fuel discharged from the pressure regulator to the reservoir. When the fuel tank assembly is inverted, as may occur when the vehicle is operating under certain dynamic conditions, the discharged fuel is retained within the reservoir, and is supplied to the fuel pump inlet via a wicking filter that extends between the reservoir and the fuel pump inlet. As a result, engine stall due to lack of fuel during certain dynamic conditions can be delayed or avoided.

A cover of a fuel supply module is adapted to disable a flow path through a designated port. An element is press-fit into the designated port to plug the designated port, and thermoplastic material is molded over an interface defined between the element and the designated port.

Overmolded plug and method

A vehicle fuel pump module includes a jet pump assembly and feed tube that delivers fuel to the assembly. The module includes a jet pump choke that is disposed in the jet pump assembly and provides a reduction of pressure of fluid within the jet pump assembly. The jet pump choke includes include a choke housing that defines a passageway that extends between a fluid inlet and outlet, and a slot that is formed in a surface of the passageway. A ball is fixed within and obstructs the passageway, and abuts the slot. A fluid path defined between the ball and surfaces of the slot provides fluid communication between the fluid inlet and outlet of the choke housing.

Vehicle fuel pump module including improved jet pump assembly

A vehicle fuel pump module includes a jet pump assembly and feed tube that delivers fuel to the assembly. The module includes, a first choke and a second choke. The first choke is disposed in the feed tube and provides filtering of the fluid and a reduction of pressure within the feed tube. The second choke is disposed in the jet pump assembly and provides a reduction of pressure of fluid within the jet pump assembly. The first and second chokes each include a choke housing that defines a passageway that extends between a fluid inlet and outlet, and a slot that is formed in a surface of the passageway. A ball is fixed within and obstructs the passageway, and abuts the slot. A fluid path defined between the ball and surfaces of the slot provides fluid communication between the fluid inlet and outlet of the choke housing.

A fuel supply system includes a fuel pump having an inlet configured to pick up fuel and an outlet configured to discharge fuel. A pressure vessel is in fluid communication with the outlet of the fuel pump such that fuel is directed from the fuel pump into the pressure vessel, the pressure vessel having an outlet port. A pressure regulation valve subassembly is detachably coupled with the outlet port via a male-female interface that positively locks against axial separation upon axial coupling in a first orientation and relative rotation of less than 360 degrees to a second orientation. A reservoir defines an internal space at least partially receiving the fuel pump, the pressure vessel, and the pressure regulation valve subassembly. The reservoir includes an interior wall that obstructs rotation of the pressure regulation valve subassembly from the second orientation to the first orientation.

Fuel pump module with replaceable filter unit

A fuel supply system includes a fuel pump having a bottom inlet end configured to pick up fuel and a top discharge end configured to discharge fuel at a pressure higher than that of the inlet end. A housing defines a pressure vessel in fluid communication with the discharge end of the fuel pump. The fuel pump is secured with respect to the housing so that the pressure vessel is laterally adjacent the fuel pump and the pressure vessel and the fuel pump have overlapping heights. Exactly one check valve is positioned between the discharge end of the fuel pump and the pressure vessel, and the check valve is spaced laterally away from the discharge end of the fuel pump at an inlet to the pressure vessel.

Fuel supply system

A fuel pump module for installation between top and bottom walls of a fuel tank. The housing defines a space accommodating a pump. The fuel pump module includes a mounting component coupled to the housing. The mounting component includes a first surface, a second surface opposite the first surface and facing the housing, a first end, and a second end opposite the first end. The mounting component and the housing are joined with a spring-loaded coupling such that the mounting component is urged away from the housing. The mounting component further includes a U-shaped recess that is concave on the first side of the mounting component. The bottom side of the housing forms a first distal end of the fuel pump module for engaging the bottom wall. The first surface of the mounting component forms a second distal end of the fuel pump module for engaging the top wall.

A diesel fuel pump module for use within a diesel fuel tank includes a reservoir defining a fuel storage volume. A jet pump having an inlet is positioned within the reservoir and configured to pump fuel from the tank into the reservoir. The module further includes an electric pump having an inlet and an outlet, and an air separation chamber connecting the electric pump outlet to the inlet of the jet pump.

The fuel feed device () furthermore has a second ejector pump () with a second nozzle () and a second mixing tube (). A fuel supply system includes a fuel pump configured to pump fuel from a first fuel storage location to an engine. A jet pump is configured to receive an auxiliary supply of fuel from the fuel pump and to return the auxiliary supply of fuel plus an additional flow of fuel drawn from a second fuel storage location to the first fuel storage location. A jet pump supply line has an inlet in fluid communication with an outlet of the fuel pump and has an outlet coupled to an inlet of the jet pump. A jet pump return line has an input coupled to an outlet of the jet pump and has an outlet adjacent to the fuel pump. A shut-off valve operates to selectively limit fuel flow through the jet pump return line.

Fuel supply system and method

An electrical connector for a modular electrical connection assembly for a fuel system includes a first leg portion and an adjacent second leg portion, each leg portion defining a cavity. The cavity of the first leg portion is configured to receive and maintain a first connector terminal and the cavity of the second leg portion is configured to receive and maintain a second connector terminal without the use of a seal fluidly separating the first connector terminal from the second connector terminal. The first connector terminal and the second connector terminal are concurrently operable with the fuel system.

Modular electrical connector and connection method

A fuel supply system includes a fuel supply pump and a jet pump utilizing flow from the supply pump to supply fuel to a fuel pump reservoir from a main fuel tank. The jet pump includes a body with a main inlet coupled to an outlet of the supply pump provided at its upper end. A nozzle is positioned on an interior of the body. A mixing tube is defined by the body downstream of the nozzle, and defines a channel extending along an axis. A suction inlet of the body is in fluid communication with the mixing tube channel. A jet pump outlet formed in the body is positioned at or above an upper portion of the reservoir such that fuel pours down into the reservoir. The body redirects fuel in a direction away from the axis for discharge through the jet pump outlet.

Fuel supply system and anti-siphon jet pump

A fuel supply system is provided for delivering fuel from a tank to an engine of a motor vehicle through a fuel line. The system is provided with a pressure relief valve to divert fuel from the fuel line during engine shut down conditions when fuel flow to the engine is not desired. The pressure relief valve has a fuel outlet that is provided with backpressure during engine operation. The backpressure enables the pressure relief valve to be set at a lower level because the backpressure is added to set point pressure to determine opening of the pressure relief valve. Lowering the set point of the pressure relief valve allows fuel to be diverted from the engine at a lower fuel line pressure. In one embodiment backpressure is provided by fluid communication from a jet pump supplying fuel from the fuel tank to a fuel system reservoir.
