Embodiments are directed to portable infusion devices, systems, and methods of using the same for dispensing materials. In some cases, the devices, systems and methods may be used for infusing a material such as medicament, e.g., insulin, into a body in need thereof.

Subcutaneous access hub embodiments are discussed herein that include housing embodiments having a plurality of cannula ports and a fluid passageway network that allows fluid communication between a fluid source and the plurality of cannula access ports. Such a configuration may allow a user such as a patient or clinician to releasably secure the housing to an outside surface of the patient's skin. Multiple locations on the patient's skin may then be accessed for deployment of one or more delivery cannulas via a plurality of cannula ports for delivery of fluid and from the fluid source to multiple subcutaneous locations below the patient's skin and timely movement of cannula access in the patient's skin without the need for relocating the housing.

A pump controllably moves a small quantity of fluid from a fluid chamber to an outlet port with a small inexpensive actuator powered for a very short amount of time, thereby optimizing cost, size, and battery efficiency. Multiple pumps can be housed in a single enclosure, allowing multiple drugs to each be injected through a single cannula or needle.

A computer-based system for monitoring the heart muscle function of a patient, with contextual oversight, includes a sensor array for collecting physiological and environmental data that are pertinent to the patient. A context register is also included which contains periodically updated patient-specific data that establishes a relevant contextual oversight capability for the system. In operation, a computer identifies anomalies in the physical data and detects aberrations in the environmental data. These anomalies and aberrations are then interactively evaluated together, relative to the contextual oversight capability, to determine whether clinical intervention for the patient is warranted.

Systems and methods for monitoring a heart muscle function identify anomalies in the heart muscle function of a patient, relative to a predetermined cardio-profile. Concurrently, they also detect aberrations in the characteristics of perturbations that may have caused the anomaly. In detail, the aberrations are detected relative to a predetermined response matrix for the perturbation, and characteristics of the perturbation are weighted according to their potential influence on the anomaly. The anomalies that are identified from the cardio-profile are then evaluated relative to the corresponding perturbation aberration to determine whether clinical intervention is warranted.

A novel enhanced infusion pump system is adapted for dispensing medicament from a flow material reservoir Software used in conjunction with a pressure sensor can determine a backstroke volume of medicament that can be used to calculate the volume of medicament in the flow material reservoir.

A novel enhanced flow metering device is adapted for disposing into a flow material reservoir a known volume of flow material whereby software used in conjunction with a pressure sensor may be calibrated. Additionally, by measuring the known amount of flow material returning to the flow material reservoir, checks are quickly made to ensure the pressure sensor is behaving as expected.

A device for cleaning a site of a luer activated valve (LAV) is disclosed. The device can include a cap having an inner cavity for receiving a site of the LAV. The cap can be formed to provide at least one aperture to the inner cavity when the site is received into the inner cavity. The device can also include one or more protrusions that extend inwardly from the cap to engage the site to maintain the cap on the site. The device can also include a cleaning agent that occupies some of the inner cavity. The cleaning agent can be formulated to clean the site as the inner cavity receives the site and when the cap is maintained on the site. The device can further include a removable seal that seals the cleaning agent within the inner cavity prior to the inner cavity of the cap receiving the site.

Two chamber pumps and related methods provide a platform for measuring flow rate in about real time without contacting the material being pumped. Pressure and optional temperature sensors disposed in a pressurized chamber allow for flow material delivery calculations after being calibrated or by knowing the initial volume of the flow material to be delivered.
