An overload protection apparatus for use with a planter apparatus including a coulter bar and coulter/fertilizer units mounted thereto, the coulter bar pivotally mounted to the underside of a wheel supported carrier frame designed for transport in a transport direction where a hydraulic cylinder is linked between the frame and the bar for moving the bar between a ground clearing transport position and a ground engaging position where the frame, cylinder and frame form a linkage path, the protection apparatus linked within the linkage path such that a draft force applied to the bar in a direction opposite the transport direction causes a secondary force on the apparatus and, when the secondary pressure exceeds the threshold pressure level, the protector de-links the linkage path thereby reducing the draft force.

An apparatus for securing an agricultural implement to a hitch receiving member of a vehicle, the apparatus including at least first and second elongated tongue members where the second tongue member is slidably received in the first tongue member and forms at least first and second latch receiving slots, the apparatus also including a locking assembly having an extending end receivable in the first and second slots to lock the second tongue member with respect to the first in extended and retracted positions, respectively, the apparatus further including adjustable stops and bearing members that facilitate after manufacturing adjustment of tongue assembly and locking assembly components.

An apparatus for securing an agricultural implement to a hitch receiving member of a vehicle including at least first, second and third tongue members where each tongue member forms a passageway and the members are arranged in a telescoping fashion where the second member is received within the first member passageway and the third member is received in the second member passageway, the apparatus also including at least first and second hydraulic cylinders for extending the second and third members from the first and second member passageways, respectively, wherein at least one of the cylinders is mounted externally of the members and the other cylinder may be mounted either internally or externally and including a single stage locking mechanism for locking stage members in each of the extended and retracted positions.

An apparatus for linking first and second power ports on a variable length tongue assembly where the distance between the ports varies as a function of the degree to which the tongue assembly is extended, the apparatus including a receiver member that defines a receiver space for receiving the cable when the tongue assembly is in a retracted position, a flexible power cable that links the first and second ports together and that forms at least one curve proximate the first cable end and that is convex toward the receiving space, and a guide member that restricts bending of the cable between the curve and the second end such that, upon retracting the tongue assembly, the cable is forced into the receiving space and into a stowed position, at least one embodiment includes a sheath member that further restricts cable bending.

A planter apparatus includes a carrier frame including a curved track portion, and a mainframe rotatably attached to the carrier frame and rotatable along the curved track portion and about a pivot point, which is offset from a centerline of the carrier frame. The transverse center of gravity of the planter apparatus is substantially along the centerline when the mainframe is in a transportation position.
