A seam plate implement assembly comprises a substrate having a longitudinal extent and upon which a plurality of seam plates are fixedly disposed at predetermined uniformly spaced longitudinal positions which correspond to the transverse spacing defined between the crest portions of an underlying corrugated roof decking substructure. In this manner, when a particular one of the membrane plates is fixedly secured to one of the crest portions of the underlying corrugated roof decking substructure by suitable threaded fasteners, the remaining membrane plates will be automatically properly aligned with the other crest portions of the underlying corrugated roof decking substructure so as to automatically ensure proper and secure fixation of the seam plates upon the roof decking assembly. When the seam plate or membrane plate implement assembly is used with a non-corrugated roof decking substructure, the seam plates are disposed at predeterminedly spaced locations upon the substrate so as to provide the environmental membranes with sufficient uplifting force resistance. The substrate may have a C-shaped or V-shaped cross-sectional configuration for enveloping each one of the seam plates, or may comprise a mesh member through which prong members of the seam plates are extended and folded so as to secure the seam plates upon the substrate.

A roofing plate for securing a roofing membrane to a roof includes a top surface, a bottom surface and a generally oblong peripheral edge having two major sides and two minor sides. An opening is located generally centrally on the plate in a central portion for receiving a fastener for securing the plate to the roof, and a plurality of gripping formations are formed on the peripheral edge for preventing slippage of the roofing membrane relative to the plate. Also included are a pair of first rib portions which project from the top surface respectively along at least each of the two major sides between the peripheral edge and the central opening, and a pair of transverse ribs which project from the top surface for enhancing torsional stability and reinforcing the central portion of the plate.

In a roofing washer-dispensing and fastener-driving machine, which has a fastener-feeding tube, a fastener-engaging pawl is mounted operatively to the tube, near its upper end. The pawl is pivotable between a normal position wherein the pawl is arranged to engage a fastener dropped into the tube so as to prevent the fastener from dropping through the tube and a pivoted position wherein the pawl is arranged to disengage from the fastener. An elongate rod is arranged to pivot the pawl from the normal position into the pivoted position when the machine is operated. In the same machine, a magazine adapted to hold a stack of such washers is improved so as to have a bridge mounted pivotably to one of two side walls of the magazine and a cover is mounted adjustably to the bridge, so that the cover in an upwardly adjusted position is inserted into the magazine, above a stack of such washers in the magazine, when the bridge spans the side walls and so that the cover is removed from the magazine when the bridge is pivoted to a position wherein the bridge does not span the side walls. The cover is mounted to the bridge via a rod, along which the cover is movable. In the same machine, a shuttle adapted to be reciprocatingly driven is improved so as to have a transverse groove, in which an elongate brace having a pivot pin at each end is fixed by fasteners so as to bear against the leading and trailing edges of the groove, and a transverse rib adapted to engage the lowermost washer in a stack in the magazine is defined by a removable element.

Roofing washer-dispensing and fastener-driving machine

A self-drilling fastener includes an elongated shank region having first and second ends, a head at the first end and a drill point at the second end. Included in the shank region is a root having helical threads extending therefrom with a predetermined thread density. The threads are configured to extend onto the drill point, which point extends from the root, and has a conical point with a rounded tip and a flat side. The flat side defines a pair of drilling edges.

A gripping element for attaching a roofing membrane to a roof includes a generally planar plate having a generally central opening and an oblong peripheral edge. The plate includes a top surface facing away from the roofing membrane, an upwardly projecting rib, and a plurality of gripping formations for preventing slippage of the roofing membrane relative to the plate. Preferably, the central opening is larger in diameter than the diameter of a corresponding shank portion of a threaded fastener so that the plate is permitted a specified amount of rocking when subjected to a membrane uplift force.

In a washer-dispensing machine, a chute open at a lower end receives a stack of roofing washers of a type having a central aperture to receive a fastener shank and possibly having downwardly extending barbs. A shuttle engages a single washer from the stack, displaces the single washer to a separated position as the shuttle is moved from a displaced position to a normal position, and releases the single washer in the separated position as the shuttle next moves from the normal position to the displaced position. A known mechanism is employed for moving the shuttle between the displaced position and the normal position. A novel mechanism is mounted operatively to the chute for supporting the stack so as to prevent any of the washers in the stack from dropping through the lower end of the chute and for releasing the stack so as to permit a lowermost washer in the stack to drop through the lower end of the chute. A preferred embodiment includes two stack-supporting fingers and two finger-moving plates, each finger-moving plate coacting with one of the stack-supporting fingers and coacting with a shuttle-moving mechanism so as to support and release the stack appropriately as the machine is operated. An alternative embodiment includes two pivotably mounted, stack-supporting fingers coacting with a shuttle-moving mechanism so as to function similarly.

A box doubles as a shipping carton and a dispensing container for light weight roof fasteners. The box has two end walls, each with a channel-shaped perforation therein. Top flaps connected to the end walls along respective foldlines are formed with cutouts. The cutouts in each top flap align with the perforation in the associated end wall when the top flap is folded over into facing contact with the end wall. The perforations and cutouts are offset from vertical centerlines of the end walls and top flaps. The perforations are punched out to create tabs that are pushed through the top flap cutouts, and to simultaneously produce openings in the end walls. A long strap is inserted through the cutouts and openings and looped under the box. A person can carry the box and roof fasteners in it by slinging the strap over his shoulder.

A barbed light weight concrete fastener and plate comprises a fastener with a head and two bendable legs. Each leg has a barb and a bump protruding therefrom. The fastener is pushed through a base ply and into a roof deck of cementitious material. The legs diverge to capture a concrete wedge between them. The barbs dig into the concrete wedge to increase resistance to a pullout force. The bumps create pressure points with the cementitious material that further resist pullout. A plate may be interposed between the fastener and the base ply. The plate has a number of openings therethrough of relatively large area. The openings are filled with plugs of asphalt that adhere to the base ply. Pulling of the base ply is resisted by the plate acting against the shear areas between the asphalt plugs and the base ply.
