A guidewire providing imaging and light for photoactivation of therapeutic agents. Using optical fibers with Bragg gratings, electromagnetic waves are coupled to photoacoustic materials thereby providing acoustic energy for imaging tissues. The reflected acoustic waves can be sensed with photoreflective materials coupled to different optical fibers. Additional optical fibers allow photoactivated therapeutics to be activated in proximity to the imaged tissues. The photoactivated therapeutics may be administered intravenously or with a drug-delivery catheter.

Systems and methods for user control over the acquisition, processing, and presentation of medical data are provided. Some embodiments are particularly directed to controlling the display of multi-modality medical data in a multi-modality processing system. In one embodiment, a medical imaging system receives a set of medical data including a first data subset collected using a first sensor and a second data subset collected using a second sensor, where the first sensor and the second sensor are different. A display attribute to be applied to the first data subset independent of the second data subset is received. An instruction is generated that affects the processing of the first data subset based on the display attribute. The first data subset is processed according to the instruction. The processed first data subset is displayed according to the display attribute, and the second data subset is displayed independent of the display attribute.

Display control for a multi-sensor medical device

An intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging system is provided. The IVUS imaging system includes an intravascular device including a transducer shaft with an ultrasound transducer at a distal end. The IVUS imaging system also includes an interface module removably coupled to the intravascular device. The interface module includes a connector rotatably coupled to a proximal end of the transducer shaft; a motor coupled to the connector; a spinning element coupled to the motor, wherein the spinning element comprises four conductive rings; a stationary element comprising a plurality of brushes, wherein the stationary element is disposed proximate the spinning element such that a different one of the plurality of brushes is in mechanical contact with each of the four conductive rings; and four conductors coupled to the connector and the spinning element such that the stationary element and the intravascular device are in electrical communication.

Using the disclosed intravascular devices it is possible to image tissues, deliver therapy, and evaluate the tissue after the therapy is delivered. One embodiment is a catheter configured to provide ultrasound imaging, drug delivery, and Doppler flow analysis. The devices can use ultrasound imaging as well as optical coherence tomography (OCT).

A signal conditioning device is disclosed that interfaces a variety of sensor devices, such as guide wire-mounted pressure sensors, to physiology monitors. The signal conditioning device includes a processor for controlling sensor excitation and signal conditioning circuitry within the signal conditioning device. The processor also supplies signals to an output stage on the signal conditioning device representative of processed sensor signals received by a sensor interface of the signal conditioning device. Power for the signal conditioning device processor is supplied by an excitation signal received from a physiology monitor that drives the output stage. In addition, a temperature compensating current source provides an adjustment current to at least one of a pair of resistive sensor elements to compensate for differences between temperature change upon the pair of resistive sensor elements, thereby facilitating nullifying temperature effects upon the resistive sensor elements.

Signal conditioning device for interfacing intravascular sensors having varying operational characteristics to a physiology monitor

A multisensor intrusion detection system having greatly improved immunity to false alarms is disclosed. This system employs a first sensor for sensing an intrusion in a volume of space by a first physical phenomenon and a second sensor for detecting an intrusion in the volume of space by a second physical phenomenon different from the first physical phenomenon. The first sensor generates a first signal in response to the detection of an intrusion into the volume of space, and the second sensor generates a second signal in response to a detection of an intrusion. A microcontroller generates an alarm signal upon the occurrence of one first signal and one second signal within a first interval, the occurrence of another first signal within a subsequent second interval and the occurrence of another second signal within a third subsequent interval.

Methods and apparatus for intrusion detection having improved immunity

A dual sensing intrusion detection system has a microwave channel and a PIR channel. The signal from the microwave channel is amplified by an amplifier having a substantially constant gain, and is digitized and converted into a first digital signal. The signal from the PIR detector is amplified by amplifier having a substantial constant gain and is digitized and converted into a second digital signal. The first and second digital signals are compared to a microwave threshold signal and a PIR threshold signal respectively to generate an alarm signal. The system has a thermistor to detect the ambient temperature. The PIR threshold signal can be adjusted based upon changes in static conditions from the output of the thermistor. In addition, the microwave threshold signal can be changed statically based upon long term trend of the first digitized signal. Finally, the PIR threshold signal and the microwave threshold signal can be changed based upon detection from the other respective channel due to dynamic changes in the environment.
