In a global motion estimation, profiles (Prof, Prof, ProO, Prof) are determined of frames (FR, FR, FR, FR) of an input video signal. Each profile comprises a value, for each pixel in a first direction of the frame, which is obtained by combining pixels in a second direction of the frame. The profiles are updated (Upd Prof) with a first shift (&#x394;x', &#x394;x&#x2032;, &#x394;x&#x2032;) to obtain updated profiles (Prof&#x2032;, Prof&#x2032;, Pro&#x2032;), and the updated profiles are matched (S/M) to obtain a secondary shift (&#x394;x&#x2032;, &#x394;x&#x2032;). Preferably, the first shift is a zero shift. The updating may be effected by shifting one of the profiles over the first shift to obtain a shifted profile, and subtracting another one of the profiles from the shifted profile. If the second direction is the vertical direction, the profile may comprise a vertically combined (e.g. averaged) pixel value for each pixel in the horizontal direction.

System and method for global motion estimation using profile matching

A method of converting a digital color image to a digital gray value image and in so doing distinguishably reproducing colors present in the color image is provided. The digital color image is built up of pixels each having a color value, and the digital gray value image is built up of pixels each having a gray value. The color values of the pixels are converted to gray values by the use of a dynamically adapted conversion function which is optimized on the basis of a comparison of color differences in the digital color image and gray value differences corresponding to the color differences in the digital gray value image. In this way, the colors which in conventional conversion methods are imaged on identical or substantially identical gray values can effectively be distinguishably reproduced.

Conversion of color images to gray value images

A method is provided for converting a digital colour image to a digital colour image with improved colour distinction. This method improves the colour distinction in a colour image for an observer suffering from a colour-blindness. The method includes defining a number of main colour values of a received digital colour image, converting the main colour values to converted main colour values such that the converted main colour values are perceived as distinguishable from each other by a colour-blind observer, and rendering the digital colour image with the converted main colour values.
