A carbon capture system for carbon dioxide (CO)-thermal swing adsorption (TSA) includes an engine configured to produce a hot exhaust; a plurality of capture vessels that are configured to be respectively cycled through a plurality of stages of a CO-TSA process; an Nheat exchanger configured to receive the hot exhaust; and an Nturbocharger coupled to the Nheat exchanger. The Nturbocharger is configured to receive Ngas from a first capture vessel, heat the Ngas via the Nheat exchanger through a thermal exchange with the hot exhaust to produce a heated Ngas, and provide the heated Ngas to a second capture vessel in order to dry capture media of the second capture vessel.

System and method of COthermal swing adsorption with wet regeneration and hot drying

A carbon capture system can include a plurality of COthermal swing adsorption (TSA) beds. The plurality of COTSA beds can include at least a first TSA bed, a second TSA bed, and a third TSA bed configured to capture COwithin a capture temperature range and to regenerate the captured COat a regeneration temperature range above the capture temperature range. The carbon capture system can include a plurality of valves and associated flow paths configured to allow switching operational modes of each of the first, second, and third TSA beds.

An exhaust system includes an engine configured to produce an exhaust stream; a contactor column configured to cause the exhaust stream and a lean dehydration fluid to interact such that the lean dehydration fluid absorbs water molecules from the exhaust stream to produce a dry exhaust gas and a rich dehydration fluid including absorbed water molecules; a carbon capture system including carbon capture media configured to receive the dry exhaust gas and capture carbon dioxide from the dry exhaust gas to produce a depleted flue gas; and a fluid regeneration system configured to receive the rich dehydration fluid from the contactor column, convert the rich dehydration fluid into the lean dehydration fluid by removing the absorbed water molecules from the rich dehydration fluid, and provide the lean dehydration fluid to the contactor column for absorbing additional water molecules from the exhaust stream.

An exhaust system with a semi-closed cycle includes a main flow path and having an inlet node, an outlet node, and a recirculation node between the inlet and outlet nodes; an exhaust gas recirculation flow path configured to divert a recirculated exhaust gas from the main flow path, at the recirculation node, and recirculate the recirculated exhaust gas to the inlet node; an engine configured to produce an exhaust gas based on a gas mixture including ambient air and the recirculated exhaust gas; a draft fan configured to control a gas flowrate through the main flow path; a stack flow path coupled to the main flow path; and a pressure control system configured to regulate a fan speed of the draft fan based on a pressure in the stack flow path in order to maintain the pressure in the stack flow path at a target gauge pressure.

Semi-closed cycle fault tolerant control system and method in an exhaust system

Disclosed is an improved method and system of operating the semi-closed cycle, which both reduces parasitic loads for oxygen generation and for gas clean up, while also reducing, capital cost of the gas clean up plant (reduced drying requirement) and of the oxygen plant (enabling membranes vs. mole sieves). The invention is applicable to piston or turbine engines, and results in a near fully non-emissive power system via the Semi-Closed Cycle (SCC), in a manner which both captures carbon in the form of carbon dioxide, CO2, and in a manner which improves the efficiency and cost effectiveness of prior disclosures. The captured carbon is of a purity and pressure directly suitable for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), sequestration, or industrial use.

Semi-closed cycle with turbo membrane O2 source

An improved method and system of carbon sequestration of a pyrolysis piston engine power system is provided. The system includes a pyrolysis piston engine for generating power and exhaust gas and a water cooling and separation unit which receives the exhaust gas and cools and removes water from the exhaust gas to create C02 gas supply. The system also includes a mixing pressure vessel which receives at least a portion of the C02 gas supply from the water cooling and separation unit and mixes the C02 gas supply with oxygen to create a working fluid to be provided to the piston engine and an oxygen generator for providing oxygen to the mixing pressure vessel. The system also includes a pyrolysis interface for inputting byproducts from a pyrolysis system, wherein the pyrolysis interface comprises a pyrolysis gas interface and a pyrolysis gas/oil interface.

Method and system of carbon sequestration and carbon negative power system

Disclosed is a semi-closed cycle turbine engine power system, operating with air, enriched air, or oxygen as the oxidizer, is made non-emissive via the semi-closed cycle, in a manner which produces saleable COproduct at pressure. In an embodiment of the present disclosure, the system includes, among other elements, an oxidizer supply subsystem for producing an oxidizer and a turbine engine. The oxidizer supply subsystem provides at least a portion of the oxidizer produced by the oxidizer supply sub-system to a main compressor stage of the turbine engine. A fuel supply system is also included for providing fuel to turbine engine. Operation of the turbine engine produces power and an exhaust gas. At least a portion of the exhaust gas is recirculated via a recirculation subsystem to the main compressor stage of the turbine engine.

Semi-closed cycle turbine power system to produce saleable COproduct

Disclosed is a cycle piston engine power system in which a compression ignition or spark ignition reciprocating piston engine is made non-emissive via a semi-closed cycle, in a manner which produces saleable COproduct at pressure. The cycle piston engine power system can includes, among other elements, a piston engine for generating power and exhaust gas; a water cooling and separation unit which receives the exhaust gas and cools and removes water from the exhaust gas to create COgas supply; a mixing pressure vessel which receives at least a portion of the COgas supply from the water cooling and separation unit and mixes the COgas supply with oxygen to create a working fluid to be provided to the piston engine; and an oxygen generator for providing oxygen to the mixing pressure vessel.

Cycle piston engine power system

A compact Wankel expander-alternator combination is provided. The combination includes a stationary outer housing that has embedded stator coils and a rotating inner housing having corresponding magnets disposed around the housing with the magnet/coil interaction generating power. Within the rotating housing, a three-sided rotor turns within a two lobed Wankel cavity, powered by working fluid acting on the rotor. The rotating housing and the rotor each circumscribe a stationary shaft. The shaft has an eccentric lobe about which the rotor turns on a bearing disposed between the rotor and the lobe. The rotating housing turns on bearings supported by the stationary shaft. The rotor and rotating housing are linked so that as the rotor turns in response to the working fluid force, the housing turns at a higher speed the speed ratio being preselected to achieve the desired output energy.

Integrated wankel expander-alternator

A engine-generator is provided which has a rotary engine formed with an engine housing having an output surface portion and an output shaft on a central axis extending externally of the engine housing. A generator has a stator secured to the output end of the shaft and has a surface in a confronting relation with the engine housing. Permanent magnets and windings are secured to the respective surface portion of the engine housing and stator at a radial distance from the axis. Each magnet and winding has a corresponding pole face lying in a corresponding one of a pair of first planes orthogonal to the central axis. The magnets and windings are rotatable with respect to each other and periodically align in a confronting relationship to define an air-gap between the parallel planes. The windings produce electrical output in response to rotation of the magnets relative to each other.

Integrated external combustion radial piston engine-generator

A booster mechanism is selectively connected to an exhaust turbine which consequently powers an intake air compressor. The booster mechanism applies additional power to the exhaust turbine in order to give the engine full or near full torque above idle revolutions per minute (RPM). In one embodiment, the booster mechanism comprises an air flask which contains pressurized air or another pressurized air source that can be utilized to provide a pressure source for additional power to the exhaust turbine.

Diesel engine with air boosted turbocharger

An integrated engine and generator is provided and includes a stationary non-rotating shaft. An engine block is provided that is capable of rotation about the shaft. The engine block comprises a plurality of cylinders with each cylinder including a piston translating in rectilinear motion while rotating about the shaft. A stationary generator housing and stator surrounds the block and has stator windings wound into the housing. Magnets are affixed to an outer surface of the block to rotate with the block, with the magnets separated from the housing by an air gap. The stator windings are electrically configured to match pole pairs of the magnets in order to generate electrical current upon block rotation.
