A substantially flat, steel ring having an axis, has an axial end face with two parallel chordal grooves disposed symmetrically about a central aperture. A flat end surface between the chordal grooves engages an adjacent planet gear and ends of rollers supporting the planet gear. A portion of the chordal grooves is radially inward of the outer raceway of the rollers, providing a lubricant path between the planet washer and the planet gear.

An improved thrust bearing assembly combines a thrust bearing with a thrust washer spacer which is attached to the trust bearing to provide a one-piece thrust bearing assembly. The spacer is made of plastic and has a variable predetermined axial thickness so as to facilitate the assembly of some automotive transmissions.

Thrust bearing assembly

The bearing is particularly adapted for use in the bore of a low strength material housing. The bearing includes a race with a plurality of rollers contained in the race. The length of the race is greater than the race-roller contact length. The race includes an annular, radially extending portion spaced lengthwise from one end of the rollers and a reduced, outside diameter extending lengthwise from the annular portion to a point closer to the annular portion than the closest race-roller contact point.
