One embodiment of the invention is directed to a speaker system comprising a first speaker apparatus comprising a housing, speaker components positioned substantially inside the housing and at least one first speaker apparatus charging member, wherein the speaker components include a power source, and a second speaker apparatus comprising a housing, speaker components positioned substantially inside the housing and at least one second speaker apparatus charging member. The first speaker apparatus and the second speaker apparatus are configured to each provide a different component of reproduced sound at the same time. The second speaker apparatus is configured to recharge the power source of the first speaker apparatus.

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to methods and apparatus for managing current consumption of a peripheral device to meet power specification of the host system having a preset average current supply limit, a preset peak current supply limit, or both. In specific embodiments, the host system has a current supply limit available for supplying current to the peripheral device. The peripheral device operates in a low current consumption mode and a peak current consumption mode which is intermittent over time. The peripheral device draws a low current in the low current consumption mode which is lower than the current supply limit and drawing a peak current in the peak current consumption mode which is higher than the current supply limit. The apparatus comprises a reservoir configured to store excess energy from the host system during the low current consumption mode where the low current drawn by the peripheral device is lower than the current supply limit available from the host system. A switch is configured to direct the excess energy from the host system to the reservoir for storage during the low current consumption mode of the peripheral device and to allow energy to be drawn from the reservoir to operate the peripheral device in the peak current consumption mode.

Method and apparatus for managing current consumption

A roller is provided in an input device such as a joystick to perform functions that compliment its operation. Upon detecting rotational movement of the roller in a first direction by a preset angle, a first signal is generated for activating a first logical button. Upon detecting rotational movement of the roller in a second direction by a preset angle, a second signal is generated for activating a second logical button. Roller rotation by multiples of the preset angle represents a series of button presses. The button press may be assigned a function such as selecting an item from a menu or adjusting attributes of objects or data displayed on a computer screen, such as the selection or firing of weapons or adjustment of shield balance in a video game application.

A tactile force feedback apparatus for an input device comprises an inertial member having a movable portion being movable relative to the input device. A magnetically actuatable member is connected to the movable portion of the inertial member. A magnetic driver is configured to generate a magnetic field to move the magnetically actuatable member and the movable portion of the inertial member with respect to the input device to generate tactile force feedback in response to a user's manipulation of the input device. The movable portion of the inertial member may include a contact member movable to strike the input device. The contact member may comprise an elastomeric material, and may be movable to make contact with the input device at a plurality of different contact locations during movement of the contact member.
