The present disclosure provides methods, systems, and apparatuses for collecting and/or amplifying nucleic acids. In general, provided methods, systems, and apparatuses involve contacting a sample including a nucleic acid with a nucleic acid amplification reagent without purification of nucleic acids from the sample.

Direct nucleic acid analysis

The present invention provides a container system for releasably storing a substance. The container system includes a vial having a sample storage chamber and a piercing member for piercing a membrane in the lid, which membrane seals a substance within a reservoir in the lid until the membrane is pierced by the piercing member. The container system optionally includes a funnel. There is also provided a method and kit for use of such a container system.

Container system for releasably storing a substance

A system and method for efficient and private peer-to-peer file sharing consists of ascribing a uniquely identified and anonymous link (an 'edgelink') to any file or set of files on a peer computer. The link is registered with a publishing server along with continuously updated connectivity information about the peer without registering any identifying information about the file. A peer recipient is able to access the link, receive connectivity information about the publishing peer from the server, and then receive the file from the publishing peer without file content passing through the server, mediating any intermediary NAT devices without requiring any manual or automatic device reconfiguration.

A reaction tube for use in performing the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) in a thermal cycler, is provided herein such reaction tube includes a hollow tube of heat conducting synthetic plastics material having an open top and a flat bottom formed of an optically-clear material. Such reaction tube also includes a solid plug cap nesting within said hollow tube and to provide a minimized void volume within the hollow tube and to minimize evaporation and condensation of the biological fluid.

The present invention provides an aqueous composition and method for extracting nucleic acid from a sample of bodily fluid, such as saliva, such that the nucleic acid within said sample remains stable for at least fourteen days at room temperature. Compositions and method for storage of nucleic acid from bodily fluids

An aqueous composition comprising a denaturing agent, a chelator, a buffering agent and a protease for the extraction of nucleic acid from a sample of bodily fluid, such as saliva, such that the extracted nucleic acid is stable for at least fourteen days at room temperature and can be directly utilized in an amplification reaction without further processing. The system () includes a first heater () and a second heater () each movable between a first orientation in which the first or second heater () affects the temperature of the reaction mixture () and a second orientation in which the first or second heater () does not substantially affect the temperature of the reaction mixture (). During temperature cycling, the second heater () is in the second orientation when the first heater () is in the first orientation, and the second heater () is in the first orientation when the first heater () is in the second orientation.
