A scintillator includes CsBrIdoped with Europium (CsBrI:Eu) wherein x&#x3c;0.5, and is obtained by annealing CsBrI:Eu material at a temperature from 50&#xb0; C. to 280&#xb0; C. The EPR spectrum of the obtained scintillator measured at room temperature at a frequency of 34 GHz shows a maximum signal height at a magnetic field of 1200 mT, and the signal height at 1090 mT and 1140 mT does not exceed 40%, wherein the normalized signal height percentage at 1200 mT is calculated to be 100%. The scintillator is useful in a high energy radiation detection and radiography imaging apparatus.

The present invention concerns a method for the treatment of stimulable phosphors and/or screens for use in diagnosis, in particular medical radiography. The method comprises subjecting the stimulable phosphors and/or screens to an epoxide containing gaseous compound, promptly following their manufacture. By applying the method according to the invention yellowing of the stimulable phosphors and/or screens is prevented in a safe and efficient manner; thereby the disadvantages known as such resulting from such yellowing will not occur.

The invention relates to a system having a scanner and a memory layer. The memory layer comprises particles for storing X-ray information items, that can be excited by a stimulating radiation to emit an emission radiation corresponding to one of the X-ray information items and that are embedded in a medium and are distributed over the entire thickness of the memory layer. The scanner comprises an irradiating device for irradiating a linear region on the memory layer and a detector for the positionally resolved detection of emission radiation emitted by the memory layer along the linear region. To increase the sharpness of the X-ray information items to be detected with low losses in the intensity of the emission radiation, the medium can at least partially absorb components, directed both perpendicularly and parallel to the plane of the memory layer, of the emission radiation emitted by the individual particles.
