A scanning camera for capturing images along two or more curved scan paths, the scanning camera comprising a camera assembly associated with each scan path, each camera assembly comprising an image sensor and a lens; a scanning mirror; and a drive coupled to the scanning mirror; wherein the drive is operative to rotate the scanning mirror about a spin axis according to a spin angle; the spin axis is tilted relative to each camera optical axis; the scanning mirror is tilted relative to the spin axis and each camera optical axis; the scanning mirror is positioned to reflect an imaging beam into each lens in turn; and each image sensor is operative to capture each image along a respective one of the scan paths by sampling the imaging beam at a corresponding spin angle.

A method of displaying a light field to at least one viewer of a light field display device, the light field based on a 3D model, the light field display device comprising a plurality of spatially distributed display elements, the method including the steps of: (a) determining the viewpoints of the eyes of the at least one viewer relative to the display device; (b) for each eye viewpoint and each of a plurality of the display elements, rendering a partial view image representing a view of the 3D model from the eye viewpoint through the display element; and (c) displaying, via each display element, the set of partial view images rendered for that display element.

An aerial camera for capturing images along two or more curved scan paths, the aerial camera comprising a scanning camera associated with each scan path, each scanning camera comprising an image sensor, a lens, a scanning mirror, and a drive coupled to the scanning mirror; wherein the drive is operative to rotate the scanning mirror about a spin axis according to a spin angle, the spin axis is tilted relative to the camera optical axis, the scanning mirror is tilted relative to both the camera optical axis and the spin axis and is positioned to reflect an imaging beam into the lens, the lens is positioned to focus the imaging beam onto the image sensor, and the image sensor is operative to capture each image along the scan path by sampling the imaging beam at a corresponding spin angle.

Viewpoint-optimized light field display

A head-mounted light field display device, the device comprising at least one multiplexed light field display module adapted to face an eye of a viewer wearing the device, the multiplexed light field display module comprising a light field view image generator and a waveguide with a set of shutters, the light field view image generator operable to generate, over time, a set of beams of light from a different one of a set of light field view images, the shuttered waveguide operable to transmit the set of beams and to open, over time, a different subset of the set of shutters, the subset corresponding to a position associated with the view image, thereby to emit the set of beams via the subset, thereby to display to the viewer a time-varying optical light field representative of the set of view images.

A scanning camera for capturing a set of images along a curved scan path on an object plane within an area of interest, each image of the set of images associated with a viewing angle and a viewing direction relative to the object plane, the scanning camera comprising an image sensor; a lens; a scanning mirror; and a drive coupled to the scanning mirror; wherein the drive is operative to rotate the scanning mirror about a spin axis according to a spin angle; the spin axis is tilted relative to a camera optical axis; the scanning mirror is tilted relative to both the camera optical axis and the spin axis and positioned to reflect an imaging beam into the lens, a viewing angle and a viewing direction of the imaging beam relative to the object plane varying with the spin angle; the lens is positioned to focus the imaging beam onto the image sensor; and the image sensor is operative to capture each image by sampling the imaging beam at a value of the spin angle corresponding to the viewing angle and the viewing direction of the image.

A scanning camera for capturing a set of oblique images along a curved scan path on an object plane within an area of interest, each image of the set of images associated with a viewing angle and a viewing direction relative to the object plane, the scanning camera comprising an image sensor; a lens; a scanning mirror; and a drive coupled to the scanning mirror; wherein the drive is operative to rotate the scanning mirror about a spin axis according to a spin angle; the spin axis is tilted relative to a camera optical axis; the scanning mirror is tilted relative to both the camera optical axis and the spin axis and positioned to reflect an imaging beam into the lens, a viewing angle and a viewing direction of the imaging beam relative to the object plane varying with the spin angle; the camera optical axis is tilted at an oblique angle relative to the object plane; the lens is positioned to focus the imaging beam onto the image sensor; and the image sensor is operative to capture each image by sampling the imaging beam at a corresponding value of the spin angle corresponding to the viewing angle and the viewing direction of the image.

Oblique scanning aerial cameras

A method of displaying a light field via a light field display device, the light field display device comprising an array of light field display elements, the method comprising the steps of: (a) estimating a gaze direction, and thereby a foveal field of view, of at least one eye of at least one viewer of the light field display device; (b) displaying, via each display element and at a first angular sampling rate, at least part of a light field view image; and (c) displaying, via at least one of the display elements and at a second angular sampling rate, a partial foveal light field view image, the partial foveal light field view image covering at least part of the foveal field of view of the at least one eye, the second angular sampling rate higher than the first angular sampling rate.
