A color photographic element has a reflective support and a blue light sensitive color record, a green light sensitive color record, and a red light sensitive color record and can be used to provide color photographic prints. The element also has a non-light sensitive layer over the red light sensitive color record. This non-light sensitive layer has (1) a hydrophilic colloid in an amount of at least 200 mg/mto and including 2,000 mg/m, (2) matte particles, and (3) an acrylate latex polymer having latex particles having an average size of less than 1 &#x3bc;m and a glass transition temperature of at least 70&#xb0; C. The dry weight ratio of the acrylate latex polymer to the hydrophilic colloid is at least 0.8:1 and the dry weight ratio of the acrylate latex polymer to the total matte particles is at least 15:1.

Color photographic silver halide paper and use

A color photographic element has a reflective support and a blue light sensitive color record, a green light sensitive color record, and a red light sensitive color record can be used to provide color photographic prints. The element also has a non-light sensitive interlayer between the green light and red light sensitive color records. This interlayer comprises a hydrophilic colloid and an acrylic latex polymer having a glass transition temperature (T) of less than 0&#xb0; C. The presence of this acrylic latex polymer in the interlayer reduces the formation of a cyan line defect when the color photographic print is folded or creased, such as in photobooks.

A multi-color photographic silver halide element has a total gelatin level on the imaging side of the support is less than 9000 mg/m, and bulk gelatin-to-junk weight ratio for all of the light sensitive layers on the imaging side of the support is greater than 1.5. The imaging layers can be thinned without undesirable loss in sensitometric properties and in increase in dust and dirt generation while providing reduced material costs and improving development properties.

Silver halide color photographic elements having multiple color imaging layers contain a permanent, pre-formed magenta dye that is present in an amount to provide a status M green density greater than 0.005 per mg/m. This dye provides minimum density at lower cost and enables lower dye levels and a reduced organic load that may lead to improved film physical properties.

Silver halide color photographic elements having multiple color imaging layers contain a permanent, pre-formed yellow colorant that is present in an amount to provide a status M blue density greater than 0.003 per mg/m. This colorant provides minimum density at lower cost and can be incorporated with minimal or no organic solvents and thus enable a reduced organic load that may lead to improved film physical properties.

A process for making a direct dispersion of a photographically useful material comprising: mixing (i) an aqueous phase and (ii) a liquid organic phase under conditions of shear or turbulence to form a dispersion of the organic phase dispersed in the aqueous phase; wherein the liquid organic phase comprises one or more photographically useful materials and one or more organic solvents having a boiling point of at least 150&#xb0; C., a molecular weight less than or equal to 300, and a solvatochromic parameter &#x3b2; value greater than or equal to 0.50, wherein the weight ratio of the sum of the solvents having a boiling point of at least 150&#xb0; C., a molecular weight less than or equal to 300, and a solvatochromic parameter &#x3b2; value greater than or equal to 0.50 to the photographically useful materials does not exceed 0.25. The use of relatively low levels of specified high-boiling organic solvents enables the direct dispersion of hydrophobic photographically useful materials with low solubility in conventional primary photographic useful solvents without crystallization problems or excessive decomposition.

A silver halide light-sensitive photographic element comprising a support having on one side thereof at least one cyan image forming hydrophilic colloid layer comprising a cyan image dye forming coupler, and an outermost protective overcoat layer providing a coefficient of friction of less than 0.20 after standard ECP-2B processing, wherein the ratio of permanent solvent to coupler in the cyan image forming layer is less than 0.8.

A photographic element is described comprising a support bearing at least one blue light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and an ultraviolet filter layer above the light sensitive layer, wherein the ultraviolet filter layer comprises an ultraviolet absorbing dibenzoylmethane compound of formula (I) where R1 through R5 are each independently hydrogen, halogen, nitro, or hydroyxl, or further substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkoxy, acyloxy, ester, carboxyl, alkyl thio, aryl thio, alkyl amine, aryl amine, alkyl nitrile, aryl nitrile, arylsulfonyl, or 5&#x2013;6 member heterocycle ring groups. The present invention describes photographic elements that include materials that deliver a preferred UV absorption spectrum that provides adequate spark protection, and minimizes UV radiation incident on the element during camera exposure so that accurate color rendition can be achieved, while maximizing photographic speed in the blue record.

The invention provides a color negative photographic element comprising a light sensitive silver halide emulsion imaging layer having associated therewith a cyan dye-forming coupler dispersion comprising a first 2-ureido-5-acylamino substituted phenolic cyan dye-forming coupler &lsqb;P&rsqb;, a second phenolic cyan dye-forming coupler &lsqb;AP&rsqb; where the 2-substituent is other than an ureido group, a substantially non-color-developable phenolic activator compound &lsqb;ACT&rsqb;, and a non-phenolic organic coupler solvent having a boiling point of at least 150C; wherein compounds represented by &lsqb;P&rsqb;, &lsqb;AP&rsqb;, and &lsqb;ACT&rsqb; are present in the coupler dispersion in relative weight fractions of from 0.30 to 0.65 for &lsqb;P&rsqb;, from 0.15 to 0.35 for &lsqb;AP&rsqb;, and from 0.15 to 0.35 for &lsqb;ACT&rsqb;, provided the sum of the relative weight fractions for &lsqb;P&rsqb;&plus;&lsqb;AP&rsqb;&plus;&lsqb;ACT&rsqb;&equals;1, and the weight ratio of the non-phenolic coupler solvent in the coupler dispersion is from 0.30 to 2.0 relative to the sum of &lsqb;P&rsqb;&plus;&lsqb;AP&rsqb;&plus;&lsqb;ACT&rsqb;. Photographic elements incorporating the dispersion formulation of this invention provide good activity, a cyan dye of high density and acceptable absorption maximum for color negative films. In addition, partial substitution of less expensive cyan auxiliary phenolic coupler &lsqb;AP&rsqb; and activator &lsqb;ACT&rsqb; for cyan phenolic coupler &lsqb;P&rsqb; advantageously allows cost savings.

Aqueous-based thermally sensitive emulsions and imaging materials include two or more hindered phenol silver ion reducing agents in a non-crystalline reducing agent composition. Such compositions can be provided as evaporated dispersions and can be formulated in aqueous coating compositions to provide thermally developable materials such as thermographic and photothermographic materials.

A silver halide light sensitive photographic element is disclosed comprising a support bearing at least one cyan image forming hydrophilic colloid layer comprising cyan image dye forming coupler of Formula I and benzoic acid ester or diester high boiling solvent of Formula II.

A silver halide light sensitive photographic element is disclosed comprising a support bearing at least one yellow image forming hydrophilic colloid layer comprising yellow image dye forming couplers and a substituted bisphenol light stabilizer compound which has a melting point of greater than 20.degree. C., wherein the yellow image forming layer contains less than 10 wt % high boiling permanent solvent relative to the total amount of yellow coupler in the layer. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the yellow image forming layer is substantially free of high boiling permanent solvent. Light stability for yellow image dyes formed in an exposed and processed photographic element may be significantly improved where the yellow dyes are formed in a photographic layer which is substantially free of organic solvents, or which contains only a very low level of organic solvents, in combination with a substituted bisphenol light stabilizer compound which is a solid at room temperature.

A silver halide light sensitive photographic element is disclosed comprising a support bearing at least one yellow image forming hydrophilic colloid layer comprising yellow image dye forming couplers, at least one hydrophilic colloid layer immediately adjacent to the yellow image forming layer, and at least one adjacent cyan or magenta image forming hydrophilic colloid layer comprising cyan or magenta image dye forming couplers; wherein the yellow image forming layer is substantially free of high boiling permanent solvent, any immediately adjacent hydrophilic colloid layers and the adjacent image forming layer are substantially free of high boiling permanent solvents having a logP value of less than about 5.5, and the adjacent image forming layer contains a high boiling permanent solvent having a logP value of at least about 5.5. The photographic elements exhibit good yellow image dye light stability, which is not degraded by the presence of relatively high logP value solvents in immediately adjacent hydrophilic colloid layers and other adjacent imaging layers.

Silver halide photographic light-sensitive elements comprising a support having coated thereon a coupler dispersion containing layer comprising phenolic cyan dye forming couplers of Formula I and a high boiling organic solvent of Formulas II-V as defined in the specification, wherein the weight ratio in said layer of solvent of formulas II-V relative to coupler of formula I is from 0.1 to 0.5. Such elements provide relatively high cyan coupler reactivity to obtain satisfactory cyan dye density upon processing of the photographic material. ##STR1##
