An optical emitter enabling conversion of light from a light source. The optical emitter includes a first conic reflector defining an aperture for receiving the light source, a second conic reflector opposite the first conic reflector for collimating light emitted by the light source, and a volumetric light conversion element between at least a portion of the first reflector and at least a portion of the second reflector. The optical emitter can also include a convex mirror adjacent the vertex of the second conic reflector, and an elliptical element adjacent the first conic reflector. The light conversion element can include phosphor dispersed in a resin to convert light from a first wavelength to light of a second, longer, wavelength, wherein converted light is emitted from the light conversion element.

Constrained folded path resonant white light scintillator

An optical coupling device enabling spherical or hemispherical light sources to be more fully utilized by gathering more of the emitted radiation and reducing the angle of emission. The optical coupling device includes a first conic reflector having an aperture at the first conic reflector vertex; a second conic reflector coaxial with the first conic reflector and opening toward the first conic reflector; a light source positioned at the second conic reflector vertex; and a negative element located at the aperture for reducing the numerical aperture of the light emitted from the optical coupling device. The optical coupling device may include a refractive medium between the first and second conic reflectors. The present invention provides for improved efficiencies when transferring or coupling optical energy into additional optical systems, and may be used with solid state light as well as conventional sources.

High efficiency optical coupler

A 360 degree view anamorphic resolution imaging system, which is a photonic device capable of illuminating the interior surface of a cylindrical object and then focusing the reflected light onto the detection surface of a viewing device. The system enables the selection of the level of image resolution from very high in the longitudinal axis near the center of the image, to moderate axial resolution near the outer edge of the image. The system may be used for viewing in-process machining operations, material flaw detection and measurement, and internal thread inspection.

360 degree view imaging system

Optical modules and a method of precisely assembling the modules are provided. The method includes the step of providing a set of optical components including a plurality of beam shaping components for converting at least one initial shape in cross section of a laser beam to at least one desired shape in cross section and an optical mount for supporting the set of optical components. The method further includes holding and locating the optical mount relative to a reference axis. The method still further includes holding the optical components in position relative to the optical mount during the step of holding and locating wherein the positions of the beam shaping components are initial positions. The method includes directing a laser beam having the at least one initial shape at the set of optical components during the step of holding the optical components. The method further includes adjusting the initial positions of the beam shaping components to obtain final positions of the beam shaping components relative to the optical mount during the step of directing until the laser beam has the at least one desired shape.

Optical modules and method of precisely assembling same

The invention comprises an afocal lens and mirror assembly comprising an objective lens which gathers light from an object and a field lens which transmits light to a driver's eye to provide an image having sufficient brightness, clarity, and accuracy. The light passing between the objective lens and the field lens is conditioned through an assembly of lenses and reflective elements to produce the image.

Afocal optical rearview mirror assembly

A target for use with a laser generating device is disclosed which diffracts a reference laser beam of light directed to the target along an optical axis of the target to provide a diffracted beam of light offset from the optical axis which is more easily visible to a detector, such as a human eye. Preferably, the diffracted beam includes at least one lobe offset from the optical axis at least 40&deg; and, further, is diffracted in a multi-lobe pattern. For example, the target body may include diffractive bodies either in the substrate forming the body or on a carrier member which is mounted to the target body. The diffractive bodies are dimensioned on the same order of magnitude as the wavelength of the light of the reference laser beam of light. Preferably, the diffractive bodies have a diameter in a range of approximately 0.1 microns to 5.0 microns, more preferably, 0.1 microns to 2.0 microns and, most preferably, 0.5 microns to 1.0 microns. The diffractive bodies may be formed by a colloidal suspension in the optical material or may be dispersed in the substrate forming the target body prior to molding.
