Multilayer, positive working, thermally imageable, bakeable imageable elements are disclosed. The elements have a substrate, an underlayer, and a top layer. The underlayer comprises a resin or resins having activated methylol and/or activated alkylated methylol groups, such as a resole resin, and a polymeric material that comprises, in polymerized form about 5 mol % to about 30 mol % of methacrylic acid; about 20 mol % to about 75 mol % of N-phenylmaleimide, N-cyclohexylmaleimide, N-benzylmaleimide, or a mixture thereof; optionally, about 5 mol % to about 50 mol % of methacrylamide; and about 3 mol % to about 50 mol % of a compound represented by the formula:CHC(R)C(O)NHCHOR,in which Ris Cto Calkyl, phenyl, Cto Csubstituted phenyl, Cto Caralkyl, or Si(CH); and Ris H or methyl. The elements produce bakeable lithographic printing plates that are resistant to press chemistries.

Multilayer imageable elements

Thermally imageable elements useful as lithographic printing plate precursors are disclosed. The elements comprise a substrate, an underlayer over the substrate, and a top layer over the underlayer. The top layer comprises a co-polymer that comprises, in polymerized form, norbornene or a norbornene derivative. The resulting lithographic printing plates have good resistance to pressroom chemicals.

Solvent resistant imageable element

Multilayer, positive working, thermally imageable elements are disclosed. The elements produce bakeable lithographic printing plates that are resistant to press chemistries. The elements have a substrate, an underlayer, and a top layer. The underlayer comprises a resin or resins having activated methylol and/or activated alkylated methylol groups, such as a resole resin, and a polymeric material that comprises, in polymerized form, (a) methacrylic acid; (b) N-phenylmaleimide, N-cyclohexylmaleimide, N-benzylmaleimide, or a mixture thereof; and (c) one or more monomers of the structure:

Methods of manufacturing multi-layer thermally imageable elements useful as lithographic printing plate precursors are disclosed. The elements comprise a substrate, an underlayer, and an imageable layer. The imageable layer comprises a first polymeric material and o-diazonaphthoquinone containing material. After the underlayer has been coated over the substrate and the imageable layer has been coated over the underlayer, the element is heated to between about 130&#xb0; C. and about 200&#xb0; C. for a time sufficient to decrease the sensitivity of the imageable element to the white light.

Method of manufacturing a thermally imageable element

A positive working, multi-layer thermally imageable element is disclosed. The element comprises a substrate, an underlayer, and a top layer. The top layer comprises a crosslinked polymeric material. The element may be thermally imaged and developed to form a lithographic printing plate.

Multi-layer imageable element with a crosslinked top layer

Negative-working, water-developable imageable elements, useful as printing plate precursors, and methods for their use, are disclosed. The elements can be imaged with ultraviolet radiation, with infrared radiation, or with heat. The elements contain an imageable composition that contains a latent Br&ouml;nsted acid, a water-soluble or water-dispersible binder, and an acid-activated cross-linking agent.
