The present disclosure relates to the transmission of sets of data and metadata and more particularly to the transmission of light-field contents. Light-field data take up large amounts of storage space which makes storage cumbersome and processing less efficient. In addition, light-field acquisition devices are extremely heterogeneous and each camera has its own proprietary file format. Since acquired light-field data from different cameras have a diversity of formats a complex processing is induced on the receiver side. To this end, it is proposed a method for encoding a signal representative of a light-field content in which the parameters representing the rays of light sensed by the different pixels of the sensor are mapped on the sensor. A second set of encoded parameters are used to reconstruct the light-field content from the parameters representing the rays of light sensed by the different pixels of the sensor.

The present disclosure concerns a method for displaying, on a 2D display device, a content derived from 4D light field data, based on a viewing position of a user. The 4D light field data corresponds to data acquired by either several cameras or by a plenoptic device. The method comprises: obtaining a volume in front of said 2D display device in which no disocclusions are present, said volume being defined according to optical and geometry parameters of an acquisition device that has acquired said 4D light field data, a size of a screen of said 2D display device, and an anchor plane in said content, said anchor plane being perceived as static in case of movement of a user relative to said 2D display device; determining a modified volume from said volume, comprising modifying a size of said volume, for modifying possible movements of a user positioned within the modified volume compared to movements of said user within said volume; providing means for guiding said user within said modified volume according to said viewing position of said user.

Method for displaying, on a 2D display device, a content derived from light field data

There are several types of plenoptic devices having their proprietary file format. At present there is no standard supporting the acquisition and transmission of multidimensional information for an exhaustive over-view of the different parameters upon which a light-field depends. As such acquired light-field data for different cameras have a diversity of formats. The notion of pixel beam, which represents a volume occupied by a set of rays of light in an object space of an optical system of a camera is thus introduced. The method according to the invention enables to provide data representative of a collection of pixel beams describing a first optical system that is agnostic since these data are obtained by imaging the collection of pixel beams through a second optical system. Such data representative of a collection of pixel beams enable the generation of parametrized output images from which post-processing.

A method for encoding at least one matrix of image views obtained from data acquired by a plenoptic camera is disclosed. Image views of the matrix of image views are partitioned into blocks. There are several types of plenoptic devices and camera arrays available on the market, and all these light field acquisition devices have their proprietary file format. A method for modelling an imaging device including an image sensor and an optical system is disclosed. The optical system has an aperture iris diaphragm defining an entrance pupil of the optical system. For a given configuration of the imaging device the method includes estimating a set of characteristic intrinsic parameters of the imaging device, in which a first intrinsic parameter is representative of a distance between the image plane and a sensor conjugated plane conjugated to the image sensor with respect to the optical system; a second intrinsic parameter is representative of a distance between the sensor conjugated plane and the entrance pupil and a third intrinsic parameter is representative of a magnification of the optical system; determining first and second modelling data respectively as a function of the first and third intrinsic parameters and second and third intrinsic parameters; and establishing a model of the imaging device as a function of the second and third modelling data.
