A system for automatic rearrangement of a musical composition includes a process of assigning metadata to an existing piece of music to divide it into sections and identify sections of the same type, and logic to remove and rearrange sections to produced a customized playback with a desired duration and additional options for including or removing specific sections or instruments under the control of a user.

A music and audio playback system enables an operator to control an audio effect for transitioning an audio output signal from a first audio source to a second audio source by using a single cross-fader control. The transition audio effect combines the two incoming sources using a function that depends on the current position of the cross-fader control. Effects include cross-fading the frequency range, band-ducking, vocoder effects, and beat-cutting effects. The technique is especially advantageous in DJ performance systems in which audio effect-based transitions can add excitement and variety to a performance. Dedicated transition effect preset buttons located near the cross fader facilitate rapid selection by the DJ of the cross-fader controlled transition audio effect.

Effects transitions in a music and audio playback system

A live rendering system can execute a process of buffering received data at the client to avoid needing to transfer the same data multiple times. If the client does not have data available for a wanted playback position (either compressed or decoded) then this data needs to be transferred from the server, including any overlaps needed for producing a continuous stream. The client stores the data in the event that it is needed again, but can discard the data if it receives notice that the stream content has changed. The buffering process can operate with a first priority to buffer data ahead of a currently selected playback position which is the most likely to be needed next, to minimize any delay or pauses in playback if needed data has not yet arrived. The download can be managed to preserve the known good part of decoded data.

Interactive media streaming

A music composition automation system includes logic to assign metadata to an audio recording to divide a melody in the recording into sections, and to identify song form section types for the sections. In addition, logic to associate audio accompaniment with the sections based on the identified section types can be based on a style library, that is arranged to provide data executable by a data processing system to generate musical phrases associated with respective styles. Musical phrases in the style library include metadata specifying characteristics of the phrase according to song form section type.
