A curable coating composition is provided having multi-functionalized acrylic copolymer and silicone imine resin curing agents. The acrylic copolymer of the curable coating composition has, in polymerized form, epoxy functionalized groups and cure compatibility groups and the silicone imine forms an amino-functional silicone in the presence of water. The coating compositions are useful in the field of superior weatherable and durable coatings and are useful to replace isocyanate-containing polyurethane based coatings. Also provided are coated articles produced from the curable composition.

Weatherable and durable coating compositions

A curable coating composition is provided having multi-functionalized acrylic copolymer and amino-functional silicone resin curing agents. The acrylic copolymer of the curable coating composition has, in polymerized form, epoxy functionalized groups and cure compatibility groups. The coating compositions are useful in the field of superior weatherable and durable coatings and are useful to replace isocyanate-containing polyurethane based coatings. Also provided are coated articles produced from the curable composition.

The present invention provides substantially isocyanate-free multicomponent compositions useful in making rapid dry primer compositions and coatings, the compositions comprising one or more carboxylic acid compounds that contain one of a benzothiazole, benzoxazole, or benzimidazole group, preferably, that contain a benzothiazole group, one or more hydrophobic sulfonic acid catalyst, one or more pigment, extender or filler, one or more a) polycarbamates from alkyd polyol or acrylic polyol and one or more b) a polyaldehydes or the acetal or hemiacetal thereof as a second component. The multicomponent compositions cure quickly at a temperature of from 0&#xb0; C. to less than 80&#xb0; C. to form a crosslinked polyurethane coating having improved humidity and corrosion resistance.

A method for producing polycarbamate comprising: contacting at least one carbamylating agent with a polyol in the presence of a carbamylation catalyst to form a reaction mixture having an acid value from 3 to 50 mg KOH/g dry polyol is provided. Further provided are a polycarbamate produced by the method and a coating comprising the polycarbamate.

The instant invention provides cross-linkable coating compositions, process for producing the same, and substrates coated therewith. The cross-linkable coating composition comprises: (a) polyaldehyde, or acetal or hemiacetal thereof; (b) an acid catalyst having pKa of less than 6; (c) a liquid media; (d) an acrylic polycarbamate comprising at least an average of 2.0 carbamate functional groups, wherein said polycarbamate has a glass transition (Tg) of less than 25&#xb0; C.; and (e) one or more fillers having a pH in the range of equal to or less than 9 and/or one or more pigments having a pH in the range of equal to or less than 9, and/or one or more additives having a pH in the range of equal to or less than 9, wherein said composition has a curing temperature in the range of less than 70&#xb0; C.

A coating system comprising an epoxy coating layer prepared from an epoxy formulation which comprises an epoxy resin; a curing agent with no more than 4.5 wt % free amine based on a weight solids of the curing agent; and an adjacent layer prepared from a non-isocyanate polyurethane formulation wherein the epoxy formulation and/or non-isocyanate polyurethane formulation optionally further comprise one or more additives selected from the group consisting of solvent, reactive diluent, plasticizer, pigment, filler; rheology modifiers, dispersants, surfactants, UV stabilizers, and corrosion inhibitors is provided. A two-part moisture curable coating compositions capable of forming polyurethane-polysiloxane networks is provided. The coating compositions which are useful in marine antifouling coatings provide a two-part moisture curable composition comprising: (a) a first part comprising at least one multifunctional polyol; (b) a second part comprising: (i) at least one polysiloxane polymer with at least two isocyanate or mercapto functional groups and (ii) at least one isocyanate functional organic compound; and (c) solvent. In a curable coil coating composition comprising a mixture of: (a) a curable polyester that is a liquid at room temperature, (b) a cross-linking agent; and (c) a solvent; the improvement comprising preparing the polyester from a composition comprising a mixture of 1,3- and 1,4-cyclohexane dimethanol wherein the molar ratio of the 1,3 isomer to the 1,4 isomer is from about 60:40 to about 5:95. The invention includes coatings, adhesives, binders and combinations thereof prepared from any composition of the invention, substrates coated by the process of the invention or coated using a composition of the invention and articles, including laminates, comprising a coating, adhesive, binder or combination thereof of the invention.
