A medical circuit incorporates a medical tube and a connector. The medical circuit transports gases to and/or from a patient via a patient interface. The connector has a plurality of rigid components at least partially surrounded by an overmold. The medical tube has a first elongate member and a second elongate member. The first elongate member is substantially hollow. A vent can be coupled to the first elongate members such that it maintains gaseous communication with the lumen. The vent may provide a pathway between the lumen and the atmosphere, such that gases may move into and/or out of the lumen during cleaning. The vent may also provide a barrier to liquid and/or substance ingress into the first elongate member during cleaning of the medical circuit. The medical circuit can be reusable.

A medical tube transports gases to and/or from a patient. The medical tube includes a bead wrapped around a longitudinal axis of the medical tube. The bead forms a first portion of a lumen wall of the medical tube. The medical tube also includes a film wrapped around the longitudinal axis of the medical tube. A first portion of the film overlies the bead, and a second portion of the film forms a second portion of the lumen wall. The lumen wall, formed by the bead and the second portion of the film forms a substantially smooth bore. The medical tube can be reusable or reprocessable.

Disclosed is a fluid trap for use with, or comprising part of, a respiratory therapy system, d particular comprising part of, or configured to be connected to, a breathing limb, such as an expiratory limb, of a respiratory therapy system. The fluid trap comprises a container configured to contain fluid received from an inlet; a closure, the closure and container being configured to be removeably mounted together to close the container; and a valve configured to be removeably mounted on at least one of the container and the closure, and configured to be in a closed condition which prevents fluid from flowing through the inlet when the closure is not mounted on the container, the valve being further configured to be in an open position which allows fluid from the inlet into the container when the closure is mounted on the container.

Expiratory tube

A medical circuit including a medical tube and a connector transports gases to and/or from a patient via a patient interface. The connector has a plurality of rigid components at least partially surrounded by an overmold. The medical tube has a first elongate member and a second elongate member. A pressure regulating device includes a housing having a gases inlet adapted to in use be in fluid communication or integrated with a breathing assistance apparatus which conveys gases to an infant or a neonate requiring breathing assistance, an outlet adapted to be in use in fluid communication with said infant, and an aperture which enables the venting of a portion of gases that in use are passing through the housing from the inlet to the outlet. A tube inlet on the housing is adapted to receive a surfactant delivery device therethrough to enable administration of surfactant to the infant or neonate. A sealing mechanism seals around the surfactant delivery device and is adapted to normally fluidically seal the tube inlet and in use allow the surfactant delivery device to pass through the tube inlet.

Breathing assistance apparatus

A pressure regulating device includes a housing having an inlet, a main outlet, an J an external venting outlet. An internal venting aperture is between the inlet and the external venting outlet. A valve is between the external venting outlet and the internal venting aperture. When the pressure of gases in the flow path is below a predetermined level, the valve at least partially blocks the internal venting aperture. When the pressure is above the predetermined level, the valve opens to allow at least a portion of the gases to flow from the inlet through the internal venting aperture and the external venting outlet. The valve is shaped to open in such a manner that the portion of gases flowing varies with the flow rate, such that the pressure at the main outlet is substantially constant over the flow rate range.

Pressure regulator

A connector for resuscitating an infant or neonate is disclosed. The pressure is varied between Peak Inspiratory Pressure (PIP) and Peak End Expiratory Pressure (PEEP) by the occlusion of the PEEP outlet. The PEEP outlet may either allow variable PEEP, by adjustment, or substantially flow independent fixed PEEP using a novel umbrella valve. A duck billed valve is included for suctioning of surfactant delivery during resuscitation. The connector is adapted to one handed use.
