A mixing system for a power generation system. The power generation system includes a rotary machine, an exhaust processing system, and a duct system. The rotary machine is configured to produce an exhaust stream. The exhaust processing system is positioned to receive and process the exhaust stream. The duct system is oriented to channel an air stream to the exhaust processing system and to channel the exhaust stream from the rotary machine to the exhaust processing system. The mixing system is within the duct system. The mixing system includes a plurality of supports, a plurality of links extending between at least two of the supports, and at least one wrap circumscribing at least two of the links. The at least one wrap is oriented to change an effective direction of momentum of the exhaust stream and the air stream.

A turret includes a generally frusto-conical shaped body and a plurality of static straightening vanes arranged interior to the body, the vanes dividing the body into a plurality of substantially equal sections. The vanes are configured to straighten a swirling flow of solid particles as they enter the body, and to divide the swirling flow into a plurality of straightened flows that are communicated to a plurality of coal outlet pipes.

System, method and apparatus for controlling the flow distribution of solid particles

A heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) includes: a plurality of vertically-aligned HRSG tubes; and a plurality of stepped tube restraints coupled to the plurality of vertically aligned HRSG tubes. Each stepped tube restraint includes a plurality of tube restraints. The plurality of tube restraints are arranged in an array such that each successive tube restrain is vertically higher than and axially aft of an adjacent tube restraint.

A deflector ring includes a generally annular body, and a plurality of static straightening vanes arranged interior to the body, the vanes dividing the body into a plurality of substantially equal sections. The vanes are configured to straighten a swirling flow of solid particles as they enter the annular body, and to divide the swirling flow into a plurality of straightened flows that are communicated to a turret positionable above the deflector ring.

A turret includes a generally frusto-conical shaped body and a plurality of static vanes arranged interior to the body and extending inwardly from an interior sidewall of the body. The vanes are configured to guide a swirling flow of solid particles as they enter the body, and to divide the swirling flow into a plurality of controlled flows that are communicated to a plurality of coal outlet pipes.

Disclosed herein is a once-through evaporator comprising an inlet manifold; one or more inlet headers in fluid communication with the inlet manifold; one or more tube stacks, where each tube stack comprises one or more inclined evaporator tubes; the one or more tube stacks being in fluid communication with the one or more inlet headers; where the inclined tubes are inclined at an angle of less than 90 degrees or greater than 90 degrees to a vertical; one or more outlet headers in fluid communication with one or more tube stacks; and an outlet manifold in fluid communication with the one or more outlet headers; and a baffle system comprising a plurality of baffles; the baffle system being disposed adjacent to a tube stack so that the baffle system contacts a tube.

A combustion system is provided for an oxy-combustion furnace. The combustion system includes at least one windbox mountable on the oxy-combustion furnace and having at least one main firing location. At least one primary inlet is positioned in the at least one main firing location for conveying fuel and the first oxidant into the oxy-combustion furnace. At least one secondary inlet is positioned in the at least one main firing location for conveying the second oxidant into the oxy-combustion furnace. The at least one secondary inlet is angularly offset from the at least one primary inlet.

Oxy-combustion coupled firing and recirculation system

A flow control grid includes a plurality of channel assemblies connected to one another. Each of the plurality of channel assemblies defines a flow straightening section and a flow turning section. The flow turning section has an arcuate segment and a first substantially flat segment. The first substantially flat segment is positioned in the flow straightening section. The arcuate segment extends outwardly from the flow straightening section.

A pyrolysis heater particularly for the cracking of hydrocarbons in the production of olefins has a burner arrangement in the firebox which includes staged combustion low NOhearth burners firing upwardly in the firebox adjacent to the walls. Wall stabilizing gas fuel injection tips, located at an elevation above the hearth burners, inject fuel upwardly between the walls and the flame from the hearth burners. This prevents rollover of the flame onto the process heater coil and overheating of the coil.

Pyrolysis heater

A pyrolysis heater has the inlet sections of the process coils grouped together and the outlet sections of these same process coils also grouped together. High heat liberation hearth burners are located adjacent to the inlet sections of the coils and lower heat liberation burners are located adjacent to the outlet sections. The secondary fuel tips of the burners are inclined toward the adjacent heater wall. The high heat liberation hearth burners adjacent to the inlet coils are arranged in spaced apart pairs with the secondary burner tips of each of the pair being inclined toward the other burner of the pair.

A method of operating a pulverized coal-firing furnace so as to achieve no more than a predetermined variation in the instantaneous vertical velocities of the flow exiting a combustion chamber of the furnace is provided. The method includes, in one variation thereof, providing a series of lower compartments for introducing therethrough one of air, fuel, and air and fuel into the combustion chamber. At least one upper compartment is disposed above the topmost compartment of the series of lower compartments at a relative disposition to the topmost compartment in a spacing range between a contiguous disposition to a more spaced disposition which is no more than twice the average spacing between any given compartment and an adjacent compartment. Air is injected from the at least one upper compartment generally in opposition to the swirling fireball along a direction which is offset to the other side of the diagonal in a manner such that the injected air promotes the evolution of the swirling fireball into an upward flow in the top half of the furnace characterized by portions thereof flowing upward at differing vertical velocities with a maximum variation of no more than thirty percent between the instantaneous vertical velocities of the portions of the upward flow as measured across a horizontal plane in the top half of the furnace.

Coal firing furnace and method of operating a coal-fired furnace

A method of operating a pulverized coal-firing furnace is provided which includes injecting air from an upper compartment generally in opposition to a swirling fireball. The method also provides the step of sensing a temperature characteristic of one side of a convection pass of the furnace. The sensed value, in accordance with the method of the present invention, is then evaluated to determine if the sensed value of the temperature characteristic exceeds an allowable value. In response to a determination that the temperature characteristic exceeds the allowable value, the momentum of the air injected through the upper air compartment is changed. After the step of changing the momentum of the air injected through the upper air compartment, the temperature characteristic of the one convection pass location is sensed to obtain a post adjustment value of the temperature characteristic and compared to an allowable value.
