There is disclosed an arrangement for separating an air-oil mixture in an oil distribution system of an engine. The arrangement comprises a distribution channel of the system, which defines a fluid flowpath suitable for receiving the air-oil mixture, and an ultrasonic transducer configured to insonate the fluid flowpath.

Oil distribution system for an engine

A bearing arrangement comprising: a first bearing including a first inner race coupled to a rotatable component, a first outer race; and a plurality of first roller elements between the first inner race and the first outer race; a second bearing including a second inner race coupled to the rotatable component, a second outer race, and a plurality of second roller elements between the second inner race and the second outer race; a component, the first outer race being axially moveable relative to the component; and a member between the first bearing and the second bearing and arranged to provide an indirect first force on the first outer race to prevent the first roller elements from skidding when the first bearing and the second bearing receive a second force in a first direction, the second bearing being configured to transfer the second force to the component.

Bearing arrangements

Investment casting of an engine part using a pair of core members having respective opposed faces spaced apart by a first distance, a face of a first core member of the pair being provided with one or more protrusions thereon and a face of the second core member of the pair being provided with one or more respective open recesses therein, each protrusion facing a respective open recess, wherein during a casting procedure the first and second core members are maintained positioned relative to each other so major portions of the opposed faces of the first and second core members assume mutual spacing equaling a corresponding predetermined thickness of a portion of a resulting cast wall of the first distance; and at least a head portion of the protrusion is located within the respective open recess to define a minor portion of the resulting cast wall.

Casting of engine parts

Flow restrictors (), () are widely utilized with regard to providing flow control in such situations as with respect to sealing and pressurization of bearing chambers in gas turbine engines. The restrictor (), () restricts a flow (), () but with prior arrangements may be susceptible to deposition upon flank surfaces of the restrictor (). These depositions may fragment and block an aperture (), () of the restrictor (), () reducing operational effectiveness. By provision of a deflector () having a deflector surface () flows () can be presented such that a greater proportion of the flow including droplets or other matter which may result in surface deposition or erosion will pass directly through an aperture () rather than impinge upon the flank surfaces of the restrictor (). Furthermore, the deflector () is dimensioned such that surfaces which may be susceptible to deposition have dimensions smaller than the aperture ().

Flow control arrangement

Provision of flow control arrangements which can be switched from high flow restriction to low flow restriction or vice versa are desirable. It is known to use switched vortex valves comprising a vortex chamber having a diverter portion which jets a through flow into either radial presentation to an outlet or tangential presentation with differential flow restrictions. Typically deflection is through cross flows presented from control ports as determined by mechanically actuated and controlled valves. Sensors are required to determine pressure differentials in order to actuate these moving part valves. By providing association between the control ports and an outlet path along with appropriate configuration and sizing of the flow regulators switching states can be provided through the cross flows presented via the flow regulators between the high and low through flow restriction. The flow regulators generally comprise orifice restrictors, diffusers/venturi arrangements or vortex throttles.
