The present invention relates generally to the field of emission control equipment for boilers, heaters, kilns, or other flue gas-, or combustion gas-, generating devices (e.g., those located at power plants, processing plants) and, in particular to a new and useful method and apparatus designed to improve the water supplied to non-calcium-based, aqueous wet SOscrubbers. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a system and method for softening water for use in non-calcium-based, aqueous wet SOscrubbers.

System and method for softening water for use in a scrubber

The present invention relates generally to the field of emissions control and, in particular to a new and useful method and/or system by which to control various types of corrosion and/or precipitation issues in at least a portion of a wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) scrubber system. In one embodiment, the method and/or system of the present invention relies on the supply of at least one reducing agent to the slurry of a wet flue gas desulfurization scrubber to lower the oxidation reduction potential in the absorber slurry contained within the wet flue gas desulfurization scrubber. In still another embodiment, the method and/or system of the present invention control the oxidation-reduction potential in at least one bleed stream of an absorber slurry, filtrate, and/or solution from a wet flue gas desulfurization scrubber.

Method for controlling compounds and conditions in a wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) unit

A method and system for dehumidifying flue gas from a flue gas-generating process that supplies the flue gas to a wet flue gas processor. A wet cooling tower supplies water to a wet flue gas processor to condense water from the flue gas and form a liquid mixture in the wet flue gas processor.

A method and apparatus for venting the seal air pressure within an isolated system so as to obtain a relatively small, in the range of 4 to 8 inches water gauge more or less, pressure differential across the isolation dampers. This small pressure differential is desired so as to reduce the load against which the dampers must operate thereby permitting a more economical design of such dampers.

A system for protecting the material of a gas-gas heater which receives a raw flue gas for being provided to a desulfurization plant for cleaning of the flue gas comprises a path of raw flue gas having a gas temperature which is provided to the heater. A quench device communicates with the raw flue gas flow for providing a rapid cooling of the raw flue gas. A controller communicates with the flow of raw flue gas and the quench device. The controller has a variable, pre-set temperature value which is the temperature at which the material of the heater can be damaged. The controller monitors the temperature of the raw flue gas for detecting when the temperature of the raw flue gas is greater than the pre-set temperature value for activating the quench device in order to provide a rapid cooling of the raw flue gas until the gas temperature is less than the pre-set temperature value.

Gas-gas heater protection system and method

A system for detecting an overflow from a storage tank holding a liquid and/or slurry. An inlet to an overflow box communicates with the tank at an overflow point and receives any overflow from the tank. A main drain pipe communicates with the overflow box and leads to a drain. An overflow discharge pipe having a smaller internal diameter than that of the main drain pipe also communicates with the overflow box, but is located closer to the inlet than the main drain pipe. The overflow discharge pipe provides a first drainage of any overflow from the tank to the main drain pipe, and is provided with a sensor for detecting and/or measuring a flow rate of any overflow through the overflow discharge pipe. A controller provides a signal to activate an alarm in order to alert an operator that an overflow condition exists. Alternatively, the signal could be used to control a flow rate of liquid or slurry into the tank by providing a signal to a flow rate controller to reduce the flow rate of liquid or semi-liquid into the tank whenever any overflow is detected within the overflow discharge pipe by the sensor.

Overflow detection system

A scrubber and heat recovery system for flue gas comprises a housing having a cooling section and a condensing section. An inlet is located near the cooling section and an outlet is located near the condensing section for the entry and exit of the flue gas. A cooling heat exchanger is located in the cooling section and a condensing heat exchanger is located in the condensing section for interactively contacting the flue gas. A perforated tray is located in the condensing section at the condensing heat exchanger for improving distribution of the gas and providing additional contact surface.

Condensing heat exchanger scrubbing system

A method of saturating and humidifying the incoming flue gas of a flue gas desulfurization process without the need for underspray headers or the like. Initial humidification occurs by passing the incoming flue gas through a continuous liquid curtain of recycled bottoms product falling from an awning over the flue gas inlet. Further saturation and humidification occurs by causing recycled bottoms product to fall or rain from an overhead tray or grid onto the flue gas prior to passing through the tray or grid. In order to accomplish such humidification, there is an unobstructed passageway between the flue gas inlet and the lowermost tray or grid.
