A multilayer film including at least one abuse layer. The abuse layer being a blend of one or more polyamides and an anhydride grafted or maleic anhydride grafted elastomer. Anhydride or maleic anhydride grafted elastomers include ethylene propylene diene monomer, ethylene propylene copolymer, styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene, ethylene/octene copolymer and blends thereof. A pouch for made from the multilayer film, a method for packaging a food product with the multilayer film are also disclosed.

Elastomer containing multilayer film and method of manufacture

A multilayer film for use in packaging organoleptic sensitive products has the structure seal/bulk/tie #1/core/tie #2/tie #3/odor barrier, in which the seal layer contains a homogeneous ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin copolymer having a density of at least 0.906 g/cc. The odor barrier contains a polyester, amorphous polyamide, polycarbonate, polyvinylalcohol, and/or cyclic olefin copolymer. The 7-layer film above, and variants thereof, can be produced by coextrusion, extrusion coating, lamination (via adhesive, heat, etc). Packaging articles include pouches. Packaged products have the organoleptic sensitive product in the pouch made from the film, or made from a film without the odor barrier layer, with the pouch being sealed inside a separate bag containing the odor barrier layer.

A multilayer film includes a first layer comprising an amorphous polymer that exhibits a glass transition temperature, and a second layer forming an exterior layer of the multilayer film and comprising a sealant material capable of forming a heat-seal, the sealant material comprising a polymer that exhibits a melting point. The glass transition temperature of the amorphous polymer is greater than the melting point of the sealant material by at least about 45 degrees centigrade.

A film includes a core layer having an amorphous polyamide; two intermediate layers, disposed on opposite surfaces of the core layer, including a semicrystalline polyamide; two adhesive layers, each disposed on a surface of the respective intermediate layer, including a polymeric adhesive; and two outer layers, each disposed on a surface of a respective adhesive layer, including an ethylene/alpha olefin copolymer, propylene homopolymer, or propylene/alpha olefin copolymer; and a second outer layer, disposed on a surface of a respective adhesive layer, including amorphous polyamide, semicrystalline polyamide, ethylene/alpha olefin copolymer, propylene homopolymer, or propylene/alpha olefin copolymer. The film can alternatively have a core layer including a polymeric adhesive, and two intermediate layers each having an amorphous polyamide. A method of packaging a product using these films, and a package, are also disclosed.

High modulus, multilayer film

A multilayer film characterized by having excellent oxygen permeability and thermoformable properties comprising a sealant layer and a heat resistant layer is disclosed. The sealant layer contains an ethylene based polymer or copolymer. The heat resistant layer has a melting point greater than that of the polymeric composition of the sealing layer. Internal layers also can be provided.

Multilayer thermoplastic packaging film

A packaged product has a cooked meat product, within a film, adhered to a meat-contact surface of the film. An anhydride functionality is present on the meat-contact surface of the film. Upon extraction in ethanol, the anhydride is extractable from the cook-in film to a level of less than 50 parts per billion. A packaged product is prepared by packaging a meat product in the cook-in film and cooking the meat product within the film so that the meat-contact surface of the film adheres to the meat product.

An easily opened package is made by heat sealing a first web to a second web. The sealing layer of the first web is a blend of polybutene and polypropylene with a third polymeric material of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer. Low density polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene, or ionomer. The sealant layer of the second web is ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, low density polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene or ionomer.

A multilayer layer cook-on film utilizes a linear low density polyethylene sealant and, in place of a relatively thick and expensive adhesive layer, two thin adhesive layers having between them an intermediate layer of ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer.
