A development system which includes a dual auger assembly, mounted in a housing, for mixing developer materials in which a trickle port is between the dual auger assembly at an end of the housing which enables combining the cleaner waste toner and trickle waste in a single without the need of an additional auger.

A translatable information transfer device, such as ink jet printhead, is stepwise advanced by a mechanism consisting of a lead screw axially spring biased at one end, cam surface provided at the other end of the lead screw, fixed cam follower which engages the cam surface, and a carrier for the information transfer device mounted on the lead screw with cooperating internal threads. Rotation of the lead screw does not advance the carrier having the information transfer device until after one complete revolution of the lead screw, whereupon the cam surface and cam follower permit the information transfer device to axially advance a predetermined distance, such as, for example, one printing swath.

Slow scan stitching mechanism

An improved fuser system especially effective for a large document type of copier is provided. The fusing system is of the heat and pressure type wherein a fuser roll is internally heated by a lamp so that the fuser surface is at a required fusing temperature. When the full width of the roll is used in a particular fusing operation, e.g. 36' wide documents are being copied, the lamp is heated to a maximum temperature. When the document copy is less than 36' and for a center registered system, the ends of the fuser roll would tend to overheat, since the copy media is absorbing heat only in the center portion. According to one aspect of the invention, a control circuit is provided to recognize that the shorter widths of the copy media are being used and to lower the lamp temperature in response thereto to prevent the fuser roll ends from overheating. A further concept is to recognize the type of media being used and to lower the lamp temperature in response to selection of copy media of different fusing characteristics.

Temperature control system for a fuser

A heat and pressure fuser includes a thin web which is wrapped around a portion of a heated fuser roll to form a fusing area. The web contacts the fuser over a relatively short wrap angle to reduce torque required to drive the fuser roll, thereby enabling a higher process speed. Fusing efficiency is maintained by use of a biasing mechanism which increases the pressure applied to the web both the entrance and exit areas of the fuser.

In an ink jet printer, an arrangement is provided for cleaning the face of the printhead in which the ink ejecting orifices are located. The arrangement includes a suction chamber directed towards, but spaced apart from, the printhead face to draw air over the printhead face and thereby remove any contamination such as ink residue and paper fibers. Advantageously, the suction chamber is formed in the cap member that is conventionally provided to engage the printhead and cap the ink ejecting orifices when the printhead is not in use. In that case, suction may also be applied to the cap member when it is in engagement with the printhead, to prime the printhead and/or to clear the ink ejecting orifices. Suction may then be maintained while the cap member is moved away from the printhead, so that air will be drawn over the printhead face.

Pneumatic surface cleaning method and apparatus for ink jet printheads

To control pressures in the developer housing of a xerographic machine, a fan with inlet connected to the housing interior through a particulate filter is used. To reduce the effect of filter loading, a mixing chamber is interposed having a fresh air inlet, the dimension of which is substantially greater than the passage from the developer housing so that as the pressure drop across the filter rises as the filter traps more and more particles, the flow of contaminated air from the developer housing remains substantially constant.
