A family of cobalt based dental alloys suitable for PFM and SLM applications that do not exhibit ferromagnetism and that are capable of meeting the ADA requirements for a 'noble' alloy are provided. The dental alloys comprise at least 25 wt. % of noble metals selected from either platinum alone or a combination of platinum and ruthenium, and from 23 to 32 wt. % chromium. Additional additive materials may be included in concentrations up to 3 wt. %. The ruthenium optionally comprises up to 8 wt. %, and in some embodiments from at least 5 wt. % to 8 wt. % of the noble metals such that the dental alloys are capable of meeting the ADA requirements for a 'noble' alloy.

Cobalt based platinum-containing noble dental alloys

A non-magnetic cobalt based 'noble' metal dental alloy is provided. The alloy generally contains at least 25 wt. % palladium, from 15 to 30 wt. % chromium and a balance of cobalt, where to ensure the alloy is non-magnetic the concentration of chromium in the alloy is at least 20 wt. %, or if the concentration of chromium is less than 20 wt. % the combined concentration of chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, niobium, tantalum vanadium and rhenium is greater than 20 wt. %.

Non-magnetic cobalt-palladium dental alloy

Dental prostheses are fabricated as a metallic alloy body by a technique that produces scrap alloy. Suitable gold base alloys have only base metal alloying additions which are more readily oxidized than gold and when combined with the gold can be age hardened. Exemplary metals include titanium, zirconium, yttrium and chromium. Scrap from fabricating a dental prosthesis is melted in air so that the base metals are all oxidized and substantially pure gold is reclaimed for reuse in new alloys.

Dental prosthesis method and alloys

A dental prosthesis may be cast and machined from a cobalt-, iron- and/or nickel-chromium base dental alloy comprising at least 25% metal selected from the group consisting of ruthenium, platinum, palladium, iridium, osmium, rhodium, and gold wherein the major portion or at least 15%, whichever is larger, of metal in this group is ruthenium; from 15 to 30% chromium; and a principal balance of metal selected from the group consisting of iron. nickel and cobalt.

Noble dental alloy

Dental prostheses are machined from a metallic body instead of being made by lost wax casting. A silverless gold alloy for dental prosthesis comprising 60-70 wt. % gold, 20-30 wt. % palladium, 0-1 wt. % of ruthenium, iridium, rhenium or of a combination thereof, as grain refiner, and the balance to 100 wt. % being indium and gallium.

Gold alloy for firing on porcelain

A dental alloy is provided for use in porcelain-fused-to-metal dental restorations, which has an excellent oxide color and which can be cast and recast without deleterious effect, which comprises at least 99.5 wt. % gold, 0.1-0.25 wt. % zinc, 0.1-0.25 wt. % indium and 0-0.3 wt. % total of Rt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Re or combinations thereof.
