The present disclosure relates to unsaturated polyolefins and processes for preparing the same. The present disclosure further relates to curable formulations comprising the unsaturated polyolefins that show improved crosslinking.

A semiconductive composite material comprising a non-polar organic polymer, a polar organic copolymer, and an electrical conducting effective amount of an ultra-low-wettability carbon black. Also a method of making the composite material; a crosslinked polyethylene product made by curing the composite material; manufactured articles comprising a shaped form of the inventive composite material or product; and methods of using the inventive composite material, product, or articles.

Composite of non-polar organic polymer, polar organic polymer, and ultra-low-wettability carbon black

A crosslinkable polyolefin composition comprising an ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer elastomer having a melt index from 0.6 to 6.2 grams per 10 minutes, a crosslinking effective amount of an alkenyl-functional monocyclic organosiloxane, and from 0.29 to 0.44 wt % of an organic peroxide; products made therefrom; methods of making and using same; and articles containing same.

Composite of non-polar organic polymer and ultra-low-wettability carbon black

A polymeric composition includes an ethylene-based polymer, one or more of an ionomer and an acid copolymer, a flame-retardant filler, and a maleic anhydride functionalized polyolefin. The polymeric composition has an MAH Product of 3 or greater.

Composite of polar organic polymer and ultralow-wettability carbon black

A composition comprises a ternary-phase polymer composite including components (A) ethylene/unsaturated ester copolymers having &#x3b3;of from &#x3c;5 to &#x3e;1 mN/m; at least two additional polymers selected from the group consisting of: (B) non-polar polymers having &#x3b3;of from &#x3e;0 to &#x3c;1 mN/m selected from the group consisting of polyethylene homopolymers, silane-functionalized polyethylene homopolymers, ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymers, and silane-functionalized ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymers, (C) ethylene/unsaturated ester copolymers having a &#x3b3;of &#x3e;5 mN/m, and (D) EPDM copolymers; and conductive filler dispersed in only one of (A) and the at least two additional polymers, wherein (i) one of the at least two additional polymers is selected from (B) and the other is selected from (C) or (D), or (ii) one of the at least two additional polymers is selected from (C) and the other is selected from (B) or (D).

Multiphase conductive polymer composite compositions

A wire or cable comprising an insulation layer and a semiconducting shield layer over and in contact with the insulation layer and strippable from the insulation layer, the second semiconducting shield layer made from the composition comprising: (A) 45-52% ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) comprising 28-45% units derived from vinyl acetate (VA) based on the weight of the EVA; (B) 30-45% carbon black having (1) 80-1 15 milliliters per 100 grams (ml/100 g) DBP absorption value, (2) 30-60 milligrams per gram (mg/g) iodine absorption (I2NO), and (3) 0.3-0.6 grams/milliliter (g/ml) apparent density; (C) 5-20% acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) comprising 25-55% units derived from acrylonitrile (AN) based on the weight of the NBR; (D) 0.2-2% phenolic antioxidant; and (E) 0.5-2% organic peroxide.

Semiconductive shield composition

A power cable comprising: (A) a conductor, (B) an insulation layer, and (C) a semiconductor layer comprising in weight percent based on the weight of the semiconductor layer: (1) 49-98% of a crosslinked olefin block copolymer (OBC) having a density less than (&#x3c;) 0.9 grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm), a melt index greater than (&#x3e;) 1, and comprising in weight percent based on the weight of the OBC: (a) 35-80% soft segment that comprises 5-50 mole percent (mol %) of units derived from a monomer comprising 3 to 30 carbon atoms; and (b) 20-65% hard segment that comprises 0.2-3.5 mol % of units derived from a monomer comprising 3 to 30 carbon atoms; (2) 2-51% conductive filler, the insulation layer and semiconductor layer in contact with one another, is degassed by a process comprising the step of exposing the cable to a temperature of at least 80&#xb0; C. for a period of time of at least 24 hours.

Process for degassing crosslinked power cables

A semiconducting shield composition comprising a polyolefin and acetylene black having at least one of the following properties: (a) a DBP oil adsorption of 150 ml/100 g to 200 ml/100 g; (b) an iodine absorption of 85 mg/g to 105 mg/g; (c) an apparent density of 0.2 g/ml to 0.4 g/ml; (d) a crystallite size along (002) less than 30 &#x212b;; and (e) a carbon-carbon bond length along (100) less than 2.42 &#x212b;. The semiconducting shield may be incorporated into a semiconducting layer and/or a semiconductor apparatus.
