A method is described for training a model that refines estimated parameter values within core images is disclosed. The method includes receiving multiple training image pairs wherein each training image pair includes: (i) an unrefined core image of a rock sample to be used for estimating rock properties, and (ii) a refined core image of the same rock sample; generating a training dataset from the multiple training image pairs; receiving an initial core model; generating a conditioned core model by training, using the multiple training image pairs, the initial core model; and storing the conditioned core model in electronic storage. The conditioned core model may be applied to an initial target core image data set to generate a refined target sore image dataset. The method may be executed by a computer system.

System and method for estimation of rock properties from core images

A virtual assistant computing system may include a user device and a virtual assistant computing system. The virtual assistant computing system may include a first processor and a first non-transitory memory configured to receive, via a network from the user device, an input corresponding to a future electronic transaction expected to be initiated by a user and analyze information corresponding to the future electronic transaction to predict based on and a plurality of scheduled electronic transactions received from an external computing system, a future state of an electronic account associated with the user. The virtual assistant computing system may then cause display, on the user device via a network, a visualization of the future state of the electronic account based on the future electronic transaction and the plurality of scheduled electronic transactions.

A thermal phase separation simulator and method for testing chemicals is disclosed. The simulator comprises a circular block heater carousel mounted for rotation on a stage. The carousel includes a circular array of test wells for receiving a plurality of test bottles, a plurality of heating elements and thermocouples disposed between the wells. Each well has an illumination port and a vertical slit to the outside to allow visual observation or imaging of a vertical swatch of the bottle. An illumination source aligns with the illumination port of each well in response to rotation of the carousel. The method includes adding a mixed phase fluid to a plurality of bottles, adding a chemical agent to each bottle, and simulating a thermal phase separation. Images of the fluid in each bottle are captured and analyzed to determine the performance of the one or more chemical agents.

Amine-aldehyde resins are disclosed for removing a wide variety of solids and/or ionic species from the liquids in which they are suspended and/or dissolved. These resins are especially useful as froth flotation depressants in the separation of bitumen from sand and/or clay or in the beneficiation of clay (e.g., kaolin clay) from an impure clay-containing ore. The resins are also useful for treating aqueous liquid suspensions to remove solid particulates, as well as for removing metallic ions in the purification of water.

Amine-aldehyde resins and uses thereof in separation processes

Naphthenic acid solids and/or emulsions can be inhibited by introducing an additive to crude oil prior to or concurrent with the deprotonation of the naphthenic acids present in the crude oil. The additives may be surfactants and can be amines, quaternary ammonium compounds, quaternary phosphonium compounds, and mixtures of both. The additives may also be linear compounds having at least two carboxylic acid or acrylic acid functional moieties.

Inhibiting naphthenate solids and emulsions in crude oil

Amines or ammonia and amines may be used to enhance recovery of heavy hydrocarbons. The amines or ammonia and amines alone or with water, steam or an oil solvent are combined with the heavy hydrocarbons to promote the transport of the heavy hydrocarbons. The amines or ammonia and amines may be injected downhole or admixed with heavy hydrocarbon containing ore on the surface, optionally with water or steam. Ammonia may be used alone with high quality steam.

Method for enhancing heavy hydrocarbon recovery

Modified resins are disclosed for removing a wide variety of solids and/or ionic species from the liquids in which they are suspended and/or dissolved. These modified resins are especially useful as froth flotation depressants in the beneficiation of many types of materials (e.g., mineral and metal ores), including the beneficiation of impure coal comprising clay impurities, as well as in the separation of valuable bitumen from solid contaminants such as sand. The modified resins are also useful for treating aqueous liquid suspensions to remove solid particulates, as well as for removing metallic ions in the purification of water. The modified resins comprise a base resin that is modified with a coupling agent, which is highly selective for binding to solid contaminants and especially siliceous materials such as sand or clay.

Modified amine-aldehyde resins and uses thereof in separation processes

A method and apparatus for modulating a beam of charged particles is described in which a beam of charged particles is produced by a particle source and a varying electric field is induced within an ultra-small resonant structure. The beam of charged particles is modulated by the interaction of the varying electric field with the beam of charged particles.

Ultra-small resonating charged particle beam modulator

We describe an ultra-small structure and a method of producing the same. The structures produce visible light of varying frequency, from a single metallic layer. In one example, a row of metallic posts are etched or plated on a substrate according to a particular geometry. When a charged particle beam passed close by the row of posts, the posts and cavities between them cooperate to resonate and produce radiation in the visible spectrum (or even higher). A plurality of such rows of different geometries are formed by either etching or plating from a single metal layer such that the charged particle beam will yield different visible light frequencies (i.e., different colors) using different ones of the rows.

Methods of producing structures for electron beam induced resonance using plating and/or etching

A device for coupling an input signal to an output signal includes a metal transmission line; an ultra-small resonant receiver structure operatively connected to an end of the transmission line constructed and adapted receive the input signal and to cause at least part of the input signal to be passed along the transmission line in the form of plasmons; an ultra-small resonant transmitter structure operatively connected to another end of the transmission line and constructed and adapted to receive at least some of the plasmons corresponding to the input signal on the transmission line and to transmit the received signal as an output signal; a source of charged particles constructed and adapted to deliver a beam of charged particles along a path adjacent the ultra-small resonant receiver structure, wherein the input signal is encoded in the beam of charged particles; and a detector mechanism constructed and adapted to detect the output signal from the ultra-small resonant transmitter structure and to provide a signal representative of the output signal to another circuit. The receiver and/or transmitter structures may be formed on, in or adjacent to the transmission line.

Resonant structures and methods for encoding signals into surface plasmons

A device couples energy from an electromagnetic wave to charged particles in a beam. The device includes a micro-resonant structure and a cathode for providing electrons along a path. The micro-resonant structure, on receiving the electromagnetic wave, generates a varying field in a space including a portion of the path. Electrons are deflected or angularly modulated to a second path.

Structures and methods for coupling energy from an electromagnetic wave

Bitumen extraction done using a process comprising: (a) preparing a bitumen froth comprising particulate mineral solids and hydrocarbons dispersed in aqueous lamella in the form of an emulsion; (b) adding a sufficient amount of a paraffinic solvent to the froth to induce inversion of the emulsion and precipitate asphaltenes from the resultant hydrocarbon phase; (c) mixing the froth and the solvent for a sufficient time to dissolve the solvent into the hydrocarbon phase to precipitate asphaltenes; and (d) subjecting the mixture to gravity or centrifugal separation for a sufficient period to separate substantially all of the water and solids and a substantial portion of the asphaltenes from the bitumen; wherein a separation enhancing additive is present in the process. The separation enhancing additive is a polymeric surfactant that has multiple lipophilic and hydrophilic moieties, which can effect easier handling of asphaltene sludges and less foaming during solvent recovery.

The present invention relates to compositions and methods for providing an improved means of modifying asphalt with a polymer. More particularly, this invention provides a crosslinking system to improve the properties of polymer modified asphalt. Compositions of the present invention contain asphalt, a rubber or elastomeric polymer, and a crosslinkable component, particularly a bismaleimide or a bismaleimide in combination with a difunctional crosslinkable monomer.

The present invention relates to compositions and methods for providing an improved means of modifying asphalt with a polymer. More particularly, this invention provides a solvent system that permits addition of the polymer as a liquid that is preferred over solids addition and handling.
