A table saw with an elevation mechanism to raise or lower a blade is disclosed. The elevation mechanism includes a handwheel operatively connected to one end of a rotatable shaft and a universal joint assembly connected to another end of the rotatable shaft. The universal joint assembly can include a driving yoke, a coupling yoke, and a driven yoke. The universal joint is mounted to a threaded shaft that turns to raise or lower the blade.

A folding stand with a pivoting securing mechanism to secure an object to the stand is disclosed. The stand may include two rails in the same horizontal plane and a securing mechanism that pivots about an axis which is perpendicular to that horizontal plane. The securing mechanism may be positionable in a locked and an unlocked position. The securing mechanism may include one or more arms that extends over a portion of the object in the locked position.

Fences for use in table saws are disclosed. One embodiment may include an actuator, handle or lever to lock and unlock the fence from the table, where the actuator, handle or lever is positioned substantially above the tabletop and substantially within the perimeter of the table (including any rail associated with the table). Another embodiment may include an actuator, handle or lever to lock and unlock the fence from the table, where the actuator, handle or lever is positioned along a top surface of the fence and configured so that the fence unclamps from the saw when the actuator, handle or lever is pressed. The fence may be configured to include a material support shelf that is selectably extendable and retractable.

A dust collection system designed for a table saw is disclosed. The dust collection system includes a dust shroud and dust shield to channel dust generated by a blade as it cuts wood or other material. The dust shroud includes fins and walls to 'peel' dust and air off a spinning blade and direct the dust and air downward. The dust shroud encloses the lower front portion of a blade. An insert with a channel into which a dust shield can extend is disclosed.

Blade guards for power tools such as table saws are disclosed. The blade guard may include a shroud that pivots up and down to allow a workpiece to move past the guard, a dust collection channel, and a pivot joint which maintains the dust collection channel in an operable condition as the shroud pivots up or down. The guard may also include a wood stop and anti-kickback pawls. The blade guard may be part of a dust collection system and may be connected to a vacuum system by a conduit such as a flexible hose.

Table saws and features for table saws are disclosed. Some of the disclosed features are particularly relevant to portable table saws such as jobsite and bench-top table saws. Table saws and table saws designed to incorporate safety systems are disclosed. The table saws may include vertical slide elevation mechanisms positioned toward the rear of the saw and constructed so that an arbor block and blade can retract when a safety system detects an unsafe condition. Elevation mechanisms for table saws and anti-backdrive mechanisms for use in elevation mechanisms for table saws are disclosed. The anti-backdrive mechanisms typically include three sub-assemblies: an input assembly, an output assembly, and a fixed assembly. The anti-backdrive mechanisms prevent a torque related to the output assembly from changing the blade elevation. For example, the weight of the blade and the structure supporting the blade is prevented from backdriving the elevation mechanism and allowing the blade to drop.

A filter device and method for using a filter device. The filter device includes a catalyst for catalyzing the reaction of organic molecules, such as an oxidation reaction, and an adsorbent for adsorbing reacted organic molecules. As a result, gaseous contaminants that include organic molecules are reacted to alter the polarity and reduce the molecular weight of the molecules. The reacted molecules are then adsorbed using an adsorbent. The filter and method are particularly useful for reacting and capturing hydrocarbons such as aliphatic hydrocarbons from an enclosed space, such as a disk drive assembly.
