A piezoelectric motor actuated amplifier mechanism that utilizes a pair of saggital linkages having one relatively fixed saggital midpoint and joined at their end points to obtain a doubled amplification factor push stroke output from one relatively movable saggital midpoint. Thermal compensators are employed between the piezoelectric actuator and the saggital linkages to stabilize the amplifier throughout a wide range of temperatures.

Double saggital push stroke amplifier

Double saggital stroke amplifier

An amplifier mechanism which utilizes the electroexpansion characteristics of a pair of piezoelectric stack motors pivotally mounted in a rigid frame to directly contact and move with the output actuator element of the mechanism. The stack motors are mounted in opposition in a saggital arrangement so as to provide counterbalanced lateral forces that are manifested in longitudinal amplified movement of the output actuator element.

Piezoelectric stack motor stroke amplifier

An escapement device has a latch plate interposed between an input and output shaft. The latch plate is pivotably connected to the input and output shafts. The latch plate has a shoulder which abuts a coaxially mounted gear ring. The output shaft is spring loaded to rotate in one direction. The input shaft can be rotated to disengage the shoulder of the latch from one of the gear ring teeth to allow the output shaft to rotate under its spring bias until the output shaft repositions the latch shoulder to reengage another one of the gear ring teeth.

Escapement device

A clutch assembly for use in a high speed starter motor/turbine assembly wherein the elements thereof must be extremely well balanced. Opposing clutch elements are unitary rigid structures without moving parts. The starter motor rotor and one of the clutch elements are assembled as a unitary balanced structure for high speed rotation and axial movement to engage or disengage the other clutch element and its associated balanced turbine load.

Electromagnetic clutch assembly

A straight dental handpiece has a tubular housing for a motor driven collet mechanism rotatably supported at one end of the housing. The burr receiving collet mechanism is actuated by a pair of diammetrically opposed cams supported for rotational movement about an axis extended transversely of the housing. In response to rotation of the cams, a cam follower on the collet mechanism is axially moved to actuate the collet mechanism to a burr receiving position. The cams are rotated by an external lever on the housing that is pivotally movable from a longitudinally extended operating position in nested relation with the housing, wherein the burr is gripped in the collet mechanism, to a burr releasing position projected generally radially of the housing.

Dental handpiece

A straight dental handpiece comprising a pair of telescoping housing barrels which can normally swivel relative to each other, one containing a chuck and the other containing a vane type air motor. A change speed transmission is entrained between the motor and the chuck, such transmission being adjustable to change speeds by relative endwise movement of the barrels. Opening and closing of the chuck is accomplished by relative rotation of the barrels while holding down a stop button. A reversing valve, also on the handpiece, is movable into either of two positions relative to one of the barrels to supply air under pressure to either of two passages to drive the motor in one direction or the other.
