In certain aspects, a method for wireless communication includes transmitting a first transmission with a first transmitter operable according to a first radio technology, and transmitting a second transmission with a second transmitter after completion of the first transmission, the second transmitter operable according to a second radio technology. The method may also include delaying transmission of the second transmission by a predetermined wait time after completion of the first transmission if the first radio technology is a radio frequency (RF) exposure time-averaged technology and the second radio technology is a non-time-averaged RF exposure technology. The method may also include transmitting the second transmission with a limited peak power for a predetermined time period for at least a portion of the second transmission if the first radio technology is a non-time-averaged RF exposure technology and the second radio technology is a time-averaged RF exposure technology.

Radio frequency exposure compliance

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for operating a wireless communication device pursuant to radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance. A method that may be performed by a wireless device includes determining a base reserve and a dynamic reserve for each of a plurality of radios; and transmitting a signal with at least one of the radios at a transmit power determined based at least in part on one or more maximum time-averaged RF exposure limits associated with each of the radios and on the base reserve and the dynamic reserve for each of the radios.

Energy allocation among multiple radios for radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance using device state information (e.g., a device state index (DSI)). Certain aspects may utilize the device information in simultaneous radio transmission scenarios, such as for simultaneous sub-6 GHz and millimeter wave (mmWave) radio transmission scenarios. In some transmission scenarios, the device state information may be applied in real time to account for a lower mmWave RF exposure contribution to the total RF exposure, thereby providing for potentially increased transmission power from the sub-6 GHz radio.

Utilizing device state information in simultaneous radio transmission scenarios for radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance

Simultaneous primary and secondary radio frequency link transmissions are described. The transmissions are restricted to within radio frequency exposure limits. A method is described that includes determining an unused power margin between an average transmit power of a primary radio and the transmit power limit. A combination of a portion of the unused power margin and a secondary reserve transmit power are allocated to the secondary radio. The average transmit power of the secondary radio is restricted to within the combination.

Simultaneous primary and secondary radio frequency link transmissions within radio frequency exposure limits

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may identify an available energy for uplink transmission of a plurality of communication links of the UE. The UE may configure, from the available energy, a first set of energy allocations for the plurality of communication links. The UE may configure a second set of energy allocations for one or more communication links of the plurality of communication links, wherein the second set of energy allocations are allocated from a remainder of the available energy after the first set of energy allocations are allocated. The UE may transmit based at least in part on at least one of the first set of energy allocations or the second set of energy allocations. Numerous other aspects are described.

Techniques for per communication link energy reservation

Techniques and apparatus for configurable radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance based on region. An example method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) generally includes identifying a region in which the UE is located, selecting at least one of a mode or one or more parameters for RF exposure compliance based on the identified region, and transmitting a signal at a transmission power level based at least in part on the at least one of the selected mode or the selected one or more parameters.

Configurable radio frequency exposure compliance based on region

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for exception-robust time-averaged radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance continuity. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) generally includes transmitting a first signal at a first transmission power based on time-averaged RF exposure measurements over a time window and storing RF exposure information associated with the time window. The method may also include detecting that an exception event associated with the UE occurred and transmitting a second signal at a second transmission power based at least in part on the stored RF exposure information in response to the detection of the event.

Exception-robust time-averaged radio frequency exposure compliance continuity

In certain aspects, a method implemented in a wireless device includes determining a specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution for a first wireless communication technology, determining a power density (PD) distribution for a second wireless communication technology, and combining the SAR distribution and the PD distribution to generate a combined RF exposure distribution. The method also includes determining at least one first maximum allowable power level and at least one second maximum allowable power level for a future time slot based on the combined RF exposure distribution, setting at least one transmission power limit for a first transmitter in the future time slot based on the at least one first maximum allowable power level, and setting at least one transmission power limit for a second transmitter in the future time slot based on the at least one second maximum allowable power level.

Evaluating radio frequency (RF) exposure in real time

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for operating a wireless communication device pursuant to radio frequency (RF) exposure with antenna grouping. An example method of wireless communication by a user equipment generally includes accessing a stored backoff factor associated with an antenna group among a plurality of antenna groups. The method also includes transmitting, from at least one transmit antenna in the antenna group, a signal at a transmission power level based on the backoff factor in compliance with an RF exposure requirement.

Time-averaged radio frequency (RF) exposure per antenna group

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for determining a transmit power based on a pattern and/or future conditions for a transmission while maintaining radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance. An example method generally includes obtaining a pattern associated with one or more first transmissions, determining a transmit power for one or more second transmissions based at least in part on the pattern and an RF exposure limit, and transmitting the one or more second transmissions at the determined transmit power.

According to certain aspects a wireless device includes transmitters, and a processor coupled to the transmitters. The processor is configured to determine a radio frequency (RF) exposure value at a peak location based on transmission power levels for the transmitters, determine a contribution of each one of the transmitters to the RF exposure value at the peak location, and reduce the transmission power level for each one of one or more of the transmitters based on the contributions of the transmitters to the RF exposure value at the peak location.

Reductions in transmit power based on spatial distributions of radio frequency exposure in multi-transmitter scenarios

Aspects of the present disclosure facilitate assessment of radio frequency (RF) exposure from a wireless device supporting multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) transmissions using multiple antennas. In certain aspects, MIMO RF exposure distributions for one or more MIMO transmissions are determined and stored in a memory. To assess RF exposure for a MIMO transmission, a processor may retrieve the corresponding MIMO RF exposure distributions from the memory, linearly combine the MIMO RF exposure distributions to obtain a combined MIMO RF exposure distribution, and assess RF exposure compliance based on the combined MIMO RF exposure distribution. In one example, the MIMO RF exposure distribution may include MIMO specific absorption rate (SAR) distributions.

Efficient determination of RF exposure for MIMO transmitters

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for radio frequency (RF) exposure with antenna grouping. An example method for grouping antennas for RF exposure compliance by a processing system generally includes determining RF exposure distributions per transmit antenna configuration for a plurality of transmit antennas and assigning the plurality of transmit antennas to a plurality of antenna groups based on the RF exposure distributions.
