A package for an electronic device includes an enclosure to hold the electronic device. The package may include a closure flap coupled to a top of the package to close the enclosure. The closure flap may include a tear strip usable to open the package. A sled may be disposed in the package and may include a substantially planar backplane and a sleeve. The electronic device may be held in a gap between the backplane and the sleeve. A portion of a top edge of the package, under the closure flap, may be recessed such that when the closure flap is opened, a pull tab of the sled is exposed. The package may include a hole formed through at least one surface of the package, from which to hang the package.

This disclosure describes, in part, systems and methods for utilizing a dividable package for efficient shipment of items. The dividable package includes two or more internal compartments for securing items for shipment, the internal compartments enclosed by a cover having a detachment mechanism. Upon activation of the detachment mechanism, previously covered labels on each of the internal compartments identifying the items within are exposed.

This disclosure describes, in part, systems and methods for package deceleration and protection while packages are loaded into a bulk box. The packaging assembly includes an interference mechanism attached to a bulk box (e.g., a Gaylord container) by multiple elastic members. As packages are dropped into the bulk box, each package contacts the interference mechanism and the elastic members dampen the kinetic energy of the falling package, thereby reducing its velocity before the package continues into the bulk box.

Package deceleration and protection systems

A packaging assembly comprises a bulk box having a shock absorber to dampen a kinetic energy of product being dispensed from a conveyor system. The shock absorber may be a rectangular sheet shock absorber disposed diagonally in the bulk box, a shuttle tray shock absorber disposed in an opening of the bulk box, a deflector net disposed in an opening of the bulk box, or a inflatable bag shock absorber disposed in the bulk box, for example.

Bulk box dampening systems

Packages for holding physical items, with the packages being configured to move the physical item from within a housing of the package to outside the housing as the user opens the package. For instance, the package may include a housing to at least partly surround the physical item, a sled to hold the physical item and reside within the housing before the package is opened, and a drawbridge that, when manipulated by a user, moves the sled and the item coupled thereto at least partly outside of the housing. Therefore, when the user receives an item (e.g., upon purchasing the physical item), the user may open the drawbridge to cause the physical item to transition to at least partly outside the box, providing a convenient and positive 'out-of-box' user experience.

Self-retracting hang tabs for product packages are described. Methods of manufacturing the self-retracting hang tabs are also described. One apparatus includes a frame to house a hang tab, the frame to be at least partially coupled to a surface of a product package, and the hang tab to allow the product package to be hung from a medium when in a deployed position. The apparatus also include a biasing member coupled to the frame and the hang tab, the biasing member to move the hang tab from the deployed position to a retracted position when not under tension. The biasing member is also configured to position the hang tab in a deployed position when the hang tab is under tension.

A packaging system for cold chain shipment may include a container having interior surface portions, a plurality of cellulose sheets disposed along the interior surface portions and defining a space configured to receive an item for cold chain shipment, and a cold source disposed within the space and configured to cool the container for cold chain shipment. The packaging system may further include a plurality of cellulose sheets, wherein adjacent sheets of the plurality of cellulose sheets define a plurality of pockets configured to trap air, and wherein the plurality of cellulose sheets are configured to insulate the space.

Packaging systems and methods for cold chain shipments

A method of servicing a portable computing device that is sealed in packaging, in which an umbilical adapter connects a servicing interface on the device, such as a micro USB port, with a servicing station dock via externally exposed contacts. The packaged device may be serviced at one or more locations after final assembly to recharge the device's battery, update or install software, or, for mobile phones, provision the mobile phone to access a cellular network.

A packaging system for transporting vials containing biological samples may comprise a first tray defining at least one first tray cavity; and a second tray defining at least one second tray cavity and configured to mate with the first tray. The packaging system may further comprise at least one first tray cavity and at least one second tray cavity, wherein the at least one first tray cavity and the at least one second tray cavity are configured to securely hold respective vials for transport, and to restrain caps on the respective vials during transport, wherein the at least one first tray cavity and the at least one second tray cavity oppose each other when the first tray and the second tray are mated together. The packaging system may also be configured to permit barcode scanning of vials held within the first tray cavity and the second tray cavity.
