A drill guide for drilling screw holes in bone fragments that are to be stabilized by means of a device composed of a compression plate and round-headed screws, the drill guide having a hollow outer cylinder and hollow inner cylinder, positioned so that the hollow inner cylinder can be slid axially within the outer cylinder by means of a spring mechanism, the plate-side end of the outer cylinder and the plateside of the inner cylinder having the shape of the spherical underside of the head and the shank of the screws to be used, respectively.

Compression drill guide

A bone screw (1) has a screw head (2), a screw tip (11), and a shaft (5) with a thread (8,14). The threaded segment (6,7) of the shaft (5) has a head-end, essentially cylindrical first shaft section (6) with minor diameter d.sub.1 (16), and a tip-end second shaft segment (7) that is connected with the first shaft segment (6) and which has a smaller minor diameter d.sub.2 (17). The thread (8,14) in the two shaft segments (6,7) has the same pitch (10,12).

A bone screw has a smooth shaft segment, a threaded segment and a tapered transition segment between the shaft and the threaded segment.

A sighting instrument, particularly for surgical purposes, comprising a handle, a tool socket and a direction finder which may be held between a radiation source and a radiation receiver, the position of which can be represented visibly by means of an image converter, allowing continuous adjustment of its orientation.

Sighting instrument

A tool for forming a stepped blind hole in bone for receipt of a fracture reducing and stabilizing surgical implant. The tool comprises a small diameter drill portion axially adjustable with respect to a larger diameter reamer portion. A conical portion includes cutting surfaces to chamfer the entrance of the hole and also includes non-cutting portions which serve to limit penetration of the tool into the bone. The tool is cannulated to allow its use in conjunction with a previously installed Kirschner guide wire.
