As a wellbore is extended into a formation, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressures change due to variations in drilling mud weight, fluid density, etc. Strain gauges downhole measure forces experienced by drilling equipment. During drilling, a strain gauge measures strain applied between the drill string and the formation. When off bottom, the strain gauge measures forces experienced by the drill string other than drilling forces. A pressure calculator converts off bottom strain gauge measurements into measurements of hydrostatic pressure for periods without fluid flow (i.e., when drilling motors are paused) and into measurements of hydrodynamic pressure for periods with fluid flow (i.e., when mud motors are operating). The pressure calculator correlates strain measurements (usually in voltages) to pressure based on a predetermined relationship for a given wellbore geometry (e.g., hole diameter, drill bit diameter, drill pipe diameter, etc.).

Methods, systems, devices, and products for manufacturing an electrical assembly, such as a completed downhole circuit board, for use in well logging. Methods include attaching an electrical component to a printed circuit board by mechanically fastening the electrical component to the printed circuit board. Methods may include using a laser to attach a plurality of legs to contact surfaces. Methods may include applying light from the laser to a material of the printed circuit board to produce heat, including mitigating reflection of the light from the material. Methods include forming a connection between a first electrical component of the electrical assembly and a second electrical component of the electrical assembly by causing heating of an additive manufacturing material by applying light from a laser. The connection may be at least one of: i) an electrical connection; ii) a structural connection; iii) an electrical insulation.

Electrical assemblies for downhole use

In one aspect, an apparatus for use in a wellbore is provided that in one embodiment includes a sensor having a plurality of spaced conductive contact elements, a sensing member that moves by gravity and contacts at least two contact elements in the plurality of contact elements to create an electrical short between such at least two contact elements and a circuit coupled to the contact elements configured to generate electrical signals in response to the electrical short between the contact elements.

This invention provides a measurement-while-drilling (MWD) downhole assembly for use in drilling boreholes which utilizes directional formation evaluation devices on a rotating assembly in conjunction with toolface orientation sensors. The data from the toolface orientation sensors are analyzed by a processor and toolface angle measurements are determined at defined intervals. Formation evaluation sensors operate substantially independently of the toolface orientation sensors and measurements of the formation evaluation sensors are analyzed in combination with the determined toolface angle to obtain formation parameters.

The present invention provides a high-speed communication and data link between a downhole tool and a surface computer. The present invention provides a plurality of busses inside of the downhole tool for providing multiple data paths between a down hole tool memory or device and a surface computer. The present invention enables high-speed dumping of memory from the downhole tool to a surface computer. The invention also provides a web server inside of the downhole tool.
