A laminated pane for a window includes (1) a first sheet having a first thickness and a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), (2) a second sheet of an inorganic glass having a second thickness and a second CTE, and (3) a polymer interlayer adhered between the first sheet and the second sheet including a layer of a first polymer material having a first elastic modulus and a layer of a second polymer material having a second elastic modulus, wherein the first CTE is greater than the second CTE, the second thickness is in the range of from 1 down to 0.3 mm, and the first elastic modulus is more than 20 times the second elastic modulus.

Laminated panes and windows formed therewith

Various embodiments for a laminate glass article and related methods are provided. The laminated glass article includes a first and second glass layers with an interlayer positioned therebetween, comprising: a polymer core layer comprising a high modulus polymer (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, polycarbonate, polyacrylate, and polyimide); a first low modulus material layer (e.g. first TPU or first PVB or first EVA) configured between the first layer and the polymer core layer; and a second low modulus material layer (e.g. second TPU or second PVB or second EVA) configured between the second layer and the polymer core layer.

Asymmetrical glass laminates having composite interlayer and related methods

The principles and embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to complexly curved laminates made from a complexly curved substrate and a flat substrate, such as automotive window glazings, and methods of cold forming complexly-curved glass products from a curved substrate and a flat substrate. In one or more embodiments, the laminate includes first complexly-curved glass substrate with a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, a second complexly-curved glass substrate with a third surface and a fourth surface opposite the third surface with a thickness therebetween; and a polymer interlayer affixed to the second convex surface and third surface, wherein the third surface and fourth surface have compressive stress values respectively that differ such that the fourth surface has as compressive stress value that is greater than the compressive stress value of the third surface.

Dynamically adjustable display systems for adjusting the position of a flexible display in response to ambient light. The display system includes a flexible display that is capable of reversibly bending along one or more bending axes. The display system further includes an adjustable support on which the flexible display is mounted, the adjustable support being able to selectively bend the flexible display. The display system includes photodetectors for detecting ambient light. The photodetectors may be positioned about a perimeter of the flexible display. A control unit in communication with the adjustable support and the plurality of photodetectors may cause the adjustable support to bend the flexible display in response to ambient light detected at the plurality of photodetectors.

Dynamically adjustable display system and methods of dynamically adjusting a display

Disclosed herein are methods for making asymmetric laminate structures and methods for reducing bow in asymmetric laminate structures, the methods comprising differentially heating the laminate structures during lamination or differentially cooling the laminate structures after lamination. Also disclosed herein are methods for reducing bow in asymmetric laminate structures, the methods comprising subjecting at least one substrate in the laminate structure to asymmetric tempering or annealing prior to lamination. Further disclosed herein are laminate structures made according to such methods.

Asymmetric processing method for reducing bow in laminate structures

A method of cold forming a glass laminate structure. The method includes assembling a multi-layer structure having two buffer plates and a glass laminate structure intermediate the two buffer plates, wherein one or both of the two buffer plates includes a pattern formed thereon or therein or the multi-layer structure includes non-deformable materials forming a pattern. The method further includes cold forming the glass laminate structure in the autoclave by heating the assembled structure to a temperature about 5 to 10 degrees above the softening point of the polymer interlayer for a predetermined period of time at a predetermined pressure. After processing the glass laminate structure can be removed from between the buffer plates wherein the pattern formed in or on the one or both buffer plates or non-deformable materials has been transferred to the glass laminate structure as a function of variances of thicknesses in the glass laminate structure.

Methods for forming patterns in thin glass laminate structures

A process for producing glass laminates including at least one sheet of glass having a thickness not exceeding 1.0 mm with reduced optical distortion and shape consistency. A pre-laminate stack of two glass sheets and a polymer interlayer are stacked between two buffer plates that are formed nominally to the desired shape of the laminate mold. The pre-laminate stack is held between the buffer plates while a vacuum is applied to the edges of the pre-laminate stack and the stack is heated to a temperature somewhat above the softening temperature of the interlayer to de-air and tack the interlayer to the two glass sheets forming the desired shaped laminate with reduced optical distortion.

Process for laminating thin glass laminates

A method and associated structure for increasing the rate at which a chromium volume is etched when the chromium body is contacted by an acid solution such as hydrochloric acid. The etch rate is increased by a metallic or steel body in continuous electrical contact with the chromium volume, both of which are in continuous contact with the acid solution. At a temperature between about 21&#xb0; C. and about 52&#xb0; C., and a hydrochloric acid concentration (molarity) between about 1.2and about 2.4, the etch rate is at least a factor of about two greater than an etch rate that would occur in an absence of the steel body. In one embodiment, the chromium volume is a chromium layer that rests upon a conductive layer that includes a metal such as copper, wherein the acid solution is not in contact with the conductive layer. In another embodiment, the chromium volume is a chromium layer located under a conductive layer that includes a metal such as copper, wherein the steel body and the acid solution both contact the chromium layer through an opening in the conductive layer such that the opening exposes the chromium layer.
