Disclosed is a modular advanced technology -marksmanship proficiency (MAT-MP) system. The MAT-MP system provides marksmanship instructors with a robust and reconfigurable set of technological tools to quickly diagnose and remediate deficiencies in marksmanship skill at a live-fire range. The system diagnoses the shooter's performance using an array of sensors and an optic camera, all placed on the shooter's weapon, to continuously monitor and record his/her performance during weapon fire. Data output by the sensors and optic camera is gathered by the MAT-MP system's weapon-mounted control device and sent wirelessly to an instructor station, typically a tablet, laptop computer or the like. The MAT-MP coach software running on the instructor's computer presents a summarized analysis of the shooter's performance as well as provides the instructor the ability to view the raw sensor data graphically. The MAT-MP system can enable the instructor to more quickly identify and confirm the root cause of the shooter's poor performance instead of forcing the instructor to rely upon heuristic methods and interpretation of the fall of shot.

Modular advanced technology marksmanship proficiency system

An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to an infrared weapon aimpoint and triggering detection system that includes an IRED that is modulated in two modes for training and evaluating first responders who are required to enter buildings and raid houses. The IRED mode is either an aiming mode or a triggered mode. The triggered mode is initiated for a short period when the weapon is fired as sensed by a recoil sensing mechanism. An IRED detector and controller sense and process the signal, and may provide output to an instructor, evaluator or a target controller to control the behavior of a target.

Infrared aimpoint detection system

A simulation system for operation of simulated weapons on moving vehicles includes a platform for supporting a trainee and an actuator operable with the platform for providing pitch and roll movement to the platform in conformance with pre-recorded live movements. A demilitarized weapon is operated from the platform with the weapon providing a weapon triggering signal to a system computer. A pulsed laser light source is attached to the barrel of the weapon for emitting a beam and placing an infrared spot onto a video projection screen which displays a recorded scene provided by a video projector. A spot tracker continuously tracks the spot as the trainee aims the weapon toward selected targets within the scene, and provides coordinate location data representative of spot locations on the screen. The computer operates the actuator for controlling the pitch and roll movement of the platform in response to a pre-processed movement profile, and receives signals from the spot tracker for receiving the coordinate location data during weapon movement and firing for providing target strike performance measurements based on the aiming and firing of the weapon. Software used by the computer includes ballistic models for providing an added realism to the weapon selected for the training.
