An RF communications transmitter system comprising a processor, a switch and a plurality of feedhorns. The switch is configured to receive a feed signal of a frequency bandwidth. The processor is configured to control the switch to provide the feed signal to each of at least two of the feedhorns for a respective time period. Each of the at least two feedhorns is configured to generate a beam during the respective time period that the feed signal is provided thereto, wherein the beam is formed based on the feed signal and is transmitted to cover a geographic area of the Earth. The formation and transmission of the beams by the feedhorns is controlled by the processor to provide a time-based allocation of bandwidth amongst the beams based on the time period that the feed signal is provided to each of the feedhorns and a respective frequency/polarization reuse scheme.

Approaches for improved frequency reuse efficiency and interference avoidance for a multi-beam satellite communications network

An apparatus for transmitting and receiving signals over a two-way satellite communication system is disclosed. A receiving unit receives data from a user terminal. A transmitting unit is coupled to the receiving unit and transmits the data to an antenna. The data is transmitted over a return channel that is established over the satellite to a hub; the hub has connectivity to a packet switched network.

An antenna alignment apparatus and alignment method is used to effectively position an antenna used in a satellite communication system on the satellite orbital arc, and to ensure that a proper antenna polarization is achieved during installation or alignment of a remote station antenna. The apparatus includes a secondary receiving device mounted on the feed arm of the antenna at a specified distance from the primary receiving device located on the primary plane of the antenna. An antenna using this system and method may be properly aligned on the orbital arc using only simple receiving equipment.

The echo suppressor suppresses echo and has a variable hangover time which avoids attenuating and distorting a return transmission signal.

Echo suppressor for facsimile calls in a satellite network

A small aperture satellite ground station communications antenna is disclosed. A rectangular section of a curved parabolic reflector is provided having first and second rectangular dimensions. An azimuth elevation pedestal for positioning the reflector is provided such that the antenna bore sight is aligned with a geostationary satellite. The reflector is supported by the pedestal to permit rotation of the reflector about a third polarization axis for the antenna. The rotation along the polarization axis permits the reflector to be optimally positioned such that its long dimension is aligned with an orbital arc of a geostationary satellite. Angle scales are provided on all three axes to facilitate repositioning to other satellites based on an initial satellite location, which serves as a reference for the scales.
