A roofing material is provided having an asphalt-coated mat or felt made up of or in combinations of fiberglass, polyester, nylon, cotton, cellulosic fibers or materials, polyethylene, polypropylene, co-polymers, melamine, phenolic, acrylics, polycarbonate, carbon fiber, clay, metallic in woven, non-woven, strands or sheets, styrene compounds, rubber, silk, leather, or wool in a woven, non-woven, or solid form. The surfacing materials can be made up of or in combination minerals, plastic particles or film, metal particles or film, cement particles, clay particles, paints, coatings, glass, ceramics, wood, wood fiber, or composite materials.

Roofing material

The disclosed principles provide a roofing product and related methods of manufacturing having antimicrobial properties. The antimicrobial properties are provided by an antimicrobial delivery system including antimicrobial materials compounded, e.g., mixed together and melted, with polymeric materials. The antimicrobial delivery system is applied to roof covering material during the production process. The roof covering material may be sheets, shingles, panels, or roll stock.

A finished flake for a roofing material including a metal flake substrate having an emissivity value up to approximately 0.25 and a reflectivity value up to approximately 0.95. A first coating is provided having unpigmented sodium silicate disposed on the substrate, wherein the first coating increases the emissivity value of the substrate and decreases the reflectivity value of the substrate. A second coating is provided having sodium silicate loaded with reflective pigments non-uniformly disposed about the first coating, wherein the finished flake has an emissivity value in excess of approximately 0.75 and a reflectivity value ranging from approximately 0.4 to approximately 0.5.

In an exemplary embodiment, the disclosed drying and dewatering system comprises an air knife and a vacuum slot, wherein the air knife is positioned over the vacuum slot and fibrous nonwoven material is passed under the air knife and over the vacuum slot. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be used to achieve greater water removal and more uniform binding agent distribution across the nonwoven fibrous material.

Apparatus and methods of manufacturing fibrous nonwoven materials and products comprising the same

A multi-layered roofing shingle is described. The layers of the shingle are connected via a mechanical fastener. A method for manufacturing a multi-layered shingle is also described. The method includes aligning the layers of the shingle, and connecting the layers via at least one mechanical fastener. Further described is a multi-layered shingle having layers that are mechanically fastened by deforming one of the layers into one of the other layers.

Disclosed herein are embodiments of a multi-layer nonwoven fiber material, and related methods of manufacturing the material. In one exemplary embodiment, the fiber material includes a first layer of directionally aligned fibers together with a second layer of randomly dispersed fibers dispersed over the first layer. Consistent with one exemplary method for manufacturing a nonwoven fiber material, the method includes dispersing a first plurality of fibers horizontally in one or more predetermined directions, as well as dispersing a second plurality of fibers horizontally in random directions. In such an embodiment, the second plurality of fibers is dispersed over the first plurality of fibers. Moreover, an exemplary embodiment of a roofing shingle employing a nonwoven fiber material as described herein is as disclosed.
