Method and apparatus for information and document management

A communication system, such as an H.323 system, in which a gatekeeper () may support a plurality of virtual private networks or virtual domains. Endpoints () are provided with communication domain identifiers (CDI) which identify the endpoints' domain. The CDI is provided during call setup and used during address resolution. In particular, H.323 endpoints according to the present invention are provided with a control layer which provides a communication domain identification (CDI) assigned to a user during call setup or other situations in which it is desirable to have domain-restricted functionality. In the call setup embodiment, the CDI may be used, during the address resolution phase of the H.323 direct signaling mode, to determine whether the call is to a user at another extension of the same company. In the direct signaling mode, the communication domain identification control layer accesses a local database to make this determination. Similarly, the CDI may be provided during call setup in gatekeeper routed signaling. In this case, a communication domain identification control layer provides the CDI to the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper then performs the address resolution using the CDI to determine whether the call is to a user of another extension of the same company. The CDI may be used to provide multiple virtual domains associated with a single gatekeeper, and also provide a virtual domain associated with multiple gatekeepers.

System and method for communication domains and subdomains in zones of real time communication systems

A method and system for supporting a real-time communication on an integrated packet-based network involve accumulating information about the communication, referred to as signature data, while the communication is being setup and/or is in progress and storing the signature data in a database that is openly accessible to any applications that are connected to the network. Once signature data regarding an active real-time communication is accumulated, portions of the signature data may be utilized to further process the active real-time communication. Providing an openly accessible communication profile that is accumulated while the communication is in progress allows applications to provide a higher level of service by tailoring actions to the profile of the specific communication.

Call signature in a packet-based network

A system and method in an H.323 network for automatically reestablishing signaling that was interrupted due to gatekeeper failure. Primary and secondary gatekeepers ( ) establish a supervisory link ( ) with one another while the media connection is set up between client terminals ( ). The primary gatekeeper ( ) also establishes the H.225/H.245 signaling between the client terminals. If the primary gatekeeper ( ) fails, the H.225/H.245 connections go down, but the media connections will continue. The secondary gatekeeper ( ) than takes over the call and sends a message to its zone's clients that the H.225/H.245 connections need to be reestablished. Further, the secondary gatekeeper ( ) sends a message to the other zone's gatekeeper (if any) of what has occurred. The clients then reestablish the H.225/H.245 channel by using the original setup message with a new Reestablish parameter. The receiving client receives the message, re-establishes the signaling connection and continues using the existing media channel for the media stream of the call.

System and method for restarting of signaling entities in H.323-based realtime communication networks

An SIP-H.323 gateway ( ) is provided, which functions as a multi-alias H.323 endpoint ( ) with one alias representing one SIP agent ( ).
