Peroxyformic acid compositions for treatment and removal of biofilm growth and mineral deposits on membranes for energy services applications are disclosed. In particular, peroxyformic acid compositions are generated in situ or on site generation for the reduction and prevention, of biofilms and the mitigation of mineral buildup on the membranes. The compositions according to the invention are compatible with the membranes under application of use conditions.

Disclosed are membrane separation cleaning processes and clean in place compositions for such membranes. The cleaning compositions can remove proteins, fats, and other food, beverage, and brewery based soils and offer an environmentally friendly alternative surfactant system to NPE. Branched extended chain PO/EO nonionic surfactants with certain characteristics may be used to provide superior cleaning to membranes. The specific surfactants may be used alone or in combination. In some embodiments, the surfactant package is used as part of a cleaning composition.

One embodiment includes a method for monitoring a CIP process previously performed. The method includes accessing CIP process data stored in a CIP library. The CIP process data includes CIP phase data associated with a plurality of CIP phases in the CIP process previously performed, equipment data associated with objects used in the CIP process during one or more of the CIP phases, and consumable data associated with consumables consumed by corresponding equipment in the CIP process. In addition, the method includes displaying at least a portion of the CIP process data, and providing a graphical user interface. The graphical user interface is configured to: organize the CIP process data into at least one of (i) a plurality of CIP phases or (ii) consumable data, and sort equipment data according to one or more of the plurality of corresponding CIP phases or corresponding consumables.

Methods of cleaning and sanitizing membrane modules within a membrane system are provided. A cleaning solution is circulated through the membrane system for about 2 to about 30 minutes. The cleaning solution includes organic acid and surfactant. A sanitizing solution is added to the cleaning solution to produce a boosted antimicrobial solution comprising an oxidizer. The boosted antimicrobial solution is then circulated through the membrane system for about 1 to about 20 minutes. The methods described are effective for reducing and removing bacterial spores and biofilms from membranes and improving membrane compatibility of effective cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
