An example system includes a first steering lens positioned between an EM source and a second steering lens, and the second steering lens positioned between the first steering lens and an emission lens. The example system includes the first and second steering lenses having a combined first effective focal length, and where the emission lens is a positive lens have a second focal length. The example system includes the first effective focal length being shorter than the second focal length. The example system includes a first steering actuator that move the first steering lens along a first movement course, and a second steering actuator that moves the second steering lens along a second movement course.

A system includes a ground-based area, an electromagnetic (EM) interrogation device having an EM emitter that directs an EM beam at the ground-based area. The EM interrogation device includes a detector array that receives reflected EM radiation from the EM beam, and a controller having a ground movement description module that determines a movement profile of the ground-based area in response to the reflected EM radiation.

System, method, and apparatus for detecting and characterizing ground motion

A wavelength converter for LiDAR systems, such as automotive LiDAR, is disclosed. Implementation of the wavelength converter in LiDAR systems makes possible generation and modulation of laser light in the silicon response region, conversion of the laser light to an eye-safe wavelength for emission and reflection from a target, and efficient conversion of the wavelength of the laser light to the silicon response region. The wavelength converter may implement a single-loop counter-propagating wavelength conversion scheme which provides both up-conversion and down-conversion of the signal within the same loop. The wavelength conversion design also has the potential for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication to enable a combined LiDAR and V2V communication system.

An example system includes a high-side electrode layer including a number of discrete electrodes and a low-side electrode layer. The system further includes an electro-optic (EO) layer including an EO active material positioned between the high-side electrode layer and the low-side electrode layer, thereby forming a number of active cells of the EO layer. Each of the number of active cells of the EO layer includes a portion of the EO layer that is positioned between one of the discrete electrodes and the low-side electrode layer. The example system further includes an insulator operationally coupled to the active cells of the EO layer, and at least partially positioned between a first one of the active cells and a second one of the active cells.

System, method and apparatus for non-mechanical optical and photonic beam steering

An example deformable mirror includes a number of cells defining an aperture plane of the mirror. Each of the cells includes a first transparent electrode layer and a second reflective electrode layer, with a solid crystal electro-optical (EO) active layer between the electrode layers. The deformable mirror includes a reflective layer optically coupled to each of the cells on the reflective side of the cell.

An example system includes a high-side electrode layer having a first number of electrical members alternated with, and electrically coupled to adjacent ones of a second number of electrical members, where either the first number of electrical members or the second number of electrical members are discrete electrodes, and the other one of the first or second number of electrical members are resistors. A system includes an initiating optics layer interposed between an electromagnetic (EM) source and a lenslet steering layer, where the lenslet steering layer includes a first positive lens element and a second negative lens element. The lenslet steering layer is interposed between the initiating optics layer and a concluding optics layer. System, method, and apparatus for high precision light beam steering using rotating lens elements

An example system includes a bulk steering crystal apparatus having a first lens face and a second concave face. The example bulk steering crystal apparatus further includes a number of steering portions interposed between the first lens face and the second concave face, where each of the steering portions includes a bulk substrate portion including an electro-optical material and a corresponding high-side electrode electrically coupled to the corresponding one of the number of steering portions.

A system and method for extending the path length of an electromagnetic wave signal traveling between apertures is disclosed. System and method for extending path length of a wave signal using angle multiplexing

An apparatus comprising a cavity having interior surfaces or reflecting elements, one or more transmitters configured to receive an electrical signal, transform the electrical signal into an electromagnetic wave signal, and introduce the electromagnetic wave signal into an inside of the cavity, and one or more receivers configured to retrieve the electromagnetic wave signal, transform the electromagnetic wave signal to a corresponding electrical signal, and transmit the corresponding electrical signal to the outside of the cavity is disclosed. The electromagnetic wave signal is contained within the inside of the cavity until retrieved by undergoing a series of reflections or traversals between the interior surfaces of the cavity or the reflecting elements within the cavity. The apparatus may further comprise one or more regenerators configured to re-amplify, re-shape, and/or re-time the electromagnetic wave signal traveling within the inside of the cavity.

Apparatus and method for storing wave signals in a cavity

A system comprising a recirculating loop configured to store an electromagnetic wave signal, the recirculating loop comprising a transmission medium and a plurality of transceivers configured to introduce the electromagnetic wave signal into the transmission medium and retrieve the electromagnetic wave signal from the transmission medium, and a signal conditioning system comprising a plurality of signal conditioners coupled to the transmission medium, the plurality of signal conditioners configured to amplify or regenerate the electromagnetic wave signal traveling in the transmission medium, one or more pump laser sources, wherein at least one of the one or more pump laser sources is configured to provide a pump laser beam to at least two of the plurality of signal conditioners, and one or more control circuits for controlling the plurality of signal conditioners, wherein at least one of the one or more control circuits is configured to control and monitor at least two of the plurality of signal conditioners, is disclosed.
