A method for monitoring and controlling a vibration welding system includes collecting sensory data during formation of a welded joint using sensors positioned with respect to welding interfaces of a work piece. A host machine extracts a feature set from a welding signature collectively defined by the sensory data, compares and correlates the feature set with validated information in a library, and executes a control action(s) when the present feature set insufficiently matches the information. A welding system includes a sonotrode, sensors, and the host machine. The host machine is configured to execute the method noted above.

Method and system for online quality monitoring and control of a vibration welding process

A weld stack includes a horn having a weld end, a polar mount adapted to receive a portion of the horn therein, a first adjustment ring coupled to the polar mount at a pre-determined distance from the weld end of the horn, and a second adjustment ring coupled to the polar mount adjacent the first adjustment ring, wherein the second adjustment ring includes a fine adjustment device for adjusting a relative position of the first adjustment ring and the second adjustment ring.

A welding assembly for forming a weld along a welding interface of a work piece(s) using vibrations includes a welding tool and a thermal barrier. The thermal barrier is at least a chemical and/or mechanical insulating layer positioned adjacent to the welding tool, which minimizes the rate of dissipation of heat generated by the vibrations at or along the welding interface. The welding assembly may also include a wear-resistant layer adjacent to the thermal barrier, which protects the thermal barrier from damage or wear. The welding tool is a portion an anvil assembly and/or a sonotrode assembly. A method of insulating a welding tool includes applying or connecting a thermal barrier to a surface of the welding tool, and minimizing the rate of dissipation of heat generated by the vibrations at or along the welding interface using the thermal barrier, which includes an insulating layer.

A compression retention system for a fuel cell system is provided. The compression retention system includes a first end unit and a second end unit configured to hold a fuel cell stack therebetween. A spring configured to apply a compressive force to the fuel cell stack is disposed between a first spring plate and a second spring plate. The first spring plate has an aperture formed therein. The compression retention system further includes a pair of sheets coupled to the first spring plate and the first end unit, and a spring strut disposed through the aperture of the first spring plate and coupled to the second spring plate and to the second end unit. A fuel cell system and method for assembling the fuel cell system with the compression retention system are also provided.

One exemplary embodiment including a battery cooling plate has discrete channels. In one exemplary embodiment each of the channels has a width ranging from about 1 mm to about 5 mm. In another exemplary embodiment the battery cooling plate includes a first cooling channel having a flow path generally in a U shape, and a plurality of other channels each having a generally U-shaped flow path, and wherein the other flow channels are in a nested position with respect to the first flow channel. In another exemplary embodiment the battery cooling plate a battery cooling plate includes a serpentine shaped cooling flow path formed therein, the cooling flow path including a first cooling segment and an adjacent upstream second cooling segment, wherein the second cooling segment includes at least a first cooling channel and a second cooling channel and at least a first land interposed between the first cooling channel and second cooling channel, and wherein the second cooling segment has at least one more land and one more channel than the first cooling segment.

A portable personnel monitor that is easily transported, set up and operated to perform radiological contamination testing of personnel is provided by a collapsible frame containing scintillation detectors. The frame has hinged columns as side members and a top member which is releasably connected with electrical and mechanical connecting and alignment devices to the columns. A signal analyzer unit is attached to one column via a T-slot and is connected to the scintillator detectors via a coaxial cable. A base plate having upstanding posts supports the frame rigidly in an upright position and is releasably connected to the columns by push/pull pins. The frame defines a passage which is of sufficinet height so that an adult human subject can pass through the radiation sensitivity field defined by the detectors. For transporting the monitor, the top frame member is unplugged and released; the signal analyzer unit is detached from the column; the columns are detached from the base and folded over into compact size. The collapsed unit is stored in suitcase size containers which are readily stowable or portable. All parts of the monitor are self-contained so that the monitor can be set up without tools and rapidly put into use.

A mobile radiation monitor includes a radiation detector unit and a signal analyzer connected to it. The radiation detector unit includes a base, a flat pad radiation scintillation detector on the base, and a bridging platform connected to the base and extending over the radiation scintillation detector to provide a walkway over it. Radiation from a subject on the bridging platform, producing an effect in the scintillator, is monitored at the signal analyzer. The radiation detector unit includes handles for mobility and anti-slip pads for safety.

A multigripper turret (26) for a part handling device (10) in which a circumferential array of gripper mechanisms (28) are each mounted for independent shifting movement in a convergent direction by an associated positioning mechanism (29) between an extended position centered on the axis of rotation of a rotary member (22) of the part handling device (10), and a radially outward retracted position. This enables a plurality of parts (20) to be handled by each motion of the part handling device (10).
