Each photoreceptor unit in a multi station printing system has a torque limited drive unit which provides rotational torque to overcome most of, but not all, of the rotational drag forces on the photoreceptors. In this manner, the web contact with the photoreceptor can control the speed of the photoreceptor by overrunning the torque provided by the motor but minimizing the possibly of slip or tearing of the web due to high torque loads imparted to the web by the multiple photoreceptor units of the printer.

Web feed printer drive system

A dynamic 'mailboxing' unit and system for separating by users the sheet outputs of various users of a shared users printer (including facsimile receivers, copiers or combination units). It provides for stacking the sheets sequentially outputted from the printer in separate job sets into one or more temporarily and variably assigned 'mailboxes' of a 'mailboxing' job sowing accessory unit. The 'mailboxing' unit has locking 'privacy doors' for restricting access to at least some of the mailbox bins, with electrical unlocking of selected bin doors in response to entry of a user access code. When the door is opened, an access handle is visible and the user can pull the handle which causes the job print sets to be moved to the door opening for easy removal. A second embodiment has the removal handle which extends through the door and when released and pulled by the user causes the door to open and the sets to be moved to the opening. Both embodiments eliminate the necessity of the user reaching into the bin to a possible pinch point.

Mailbox bin job set extractor

The invention is directed to a document reproduction system which includes an improved apparatus for imaging both sides of a duplex document while also providing for simplex side only imaging. A document feeder, operating in a constant velocity transport mode, moves a document to be copied along a continuous path from a feed tray to a deposit tray. Two illumination and scanning stations are positioned adjacent two locations of the path of the document travel, each scanning station adapted to scan one side of the document, either simplex or duplex. The scanning station associated with scanning the simplex side of the document projects line images of the scanned document along an optical path onto a light sensitive image medium. In a first embodiment, the projection device is a linear gradient index lens array and the light sensitive member is a linear sensor array. The scanning station associated with scanning the second, duplex, side of the document projects the duplex side line images, via a second gradient index lens array, along an optical path which is generally optically aligned with, and includes, the first optical path. Thus, the duplex line images are projected through a first gradient index lens array whose output is optically coupled into and projected by the lens array associated with the simplex scanning. Control devices are provided to enable a simplex or duplex mode of operation. Several embodiments of the invention are provided to demonstrate feasibility with document feeder inputs at different locations.

An apparatus in which a latent image of an original document is recorded on a photosensitive member. A light image of the original document is projected through a normally non-deformed transparent member onto the photosensitive member. An operator actuatable control deforms the transparent member producing a plurality of spaced grooves therein. The light image transmitted through the grooved portion of the transparent member is phase shifted with respect to the light image transmitted through the non-grooved portion thereof. In this way, the operator may deform the transparent member producing a modulated light image, or permit the transparent member to remain in the non-deformed condition so as not to modulate the light image.
