A system for collecting and managing information relating to vehicles includes a digital image collection system positioned to capture an image of a vehicle travelling along a roadway. The captured images are delivered to a computer program memory via a communications link at a transfer rate substantially equal to 100, 200, and/or 400 megabits per second. A second device collects additional information relating to the vehicle, such as the vehicle's speed, acceleration, and/or emissions data, and also delivers such information to the memory. Alternatively, two or more video capture devices may be connected in series via communications links that are all capable of transmitting data at rates substantially equal to 100, 200, and/or 400 megabits per second, such that the images collected by all of the capture devices are delivered to the memory.

Method and system for video capture of vehicle information

An apparatus and method for measuring the speed and/or acceleration of a vehicle traveling on a vehicle path includes at least one radiation emitting device and at least two radiation receiving devices. Mirrors and/or beam splitter are used to direct at least one beam across the vehicle path. A controller calculates speed and/or acceleration of the vehicle in response to interruption of the at least one beam by a passing vehicle. The system can also include a mass sensor that detects the mass of the vehicle.

An apparatus and method for measuring the speed and/or acceleration of a vehicle traveling on a vehicle path includes sender/detector units on one side of the vehicle path and corresponding retro-reflector matrix units on the other side of the vehicle path. A controller calculates speed and/or acceleration of the vehicle in response to interruption of the beam by a passing vehicle.

A support for supporting two or more units used in a system for measuring a speed and or acceleration of a vehicle, with the support able to rest on a surface, has an elongated bar on which the units are mounted. A first leg and a second leg are both mounted to the bar. A third leg is mounted to a rear portion of the bar. The legs are height-adjustable.
