The present invention concerns polymers obtained by anionic initiation and bearing functions that can be activated by cationic initiations that are not reactive in the presence of anionic polymerization initiators. The presence of such cationic initiation functions allow an efficient cross-linking of the polymer after molding, particularly in the form of a thin film. It is thus possible to obtain polymers with well-defined properties in terms of molecular weight and cross-linking density. The polymers of the present invention are capable of dissolving ionic compounds inducing a conductivity for the preparation of solid electrolytes.

The invention concerns a copolymer of ethylene oxide and at least one substituted oxirane carrying a cross-linkable function. The copolymer comprises ethylene oxide, &#x2014;O&#x2014;CH&#x2014;CHR&#x2014; units in which R is a substituent containing a reactive function which is cross-linkable by free radical process, R may be different from one unit to the other, and possibly &#x2014;O&#x2014;CH&#x2014;CHR'&#x2014; units in which R&#x2032; is a substituent containing no reactive function which is cross-linkable by means of a free radical process, R&#x2032; may be different from one unit to the other. It is characterized by an excellent polymolecularity index I=Mw/Mn and a statistical distribution of the different monomer units. The copolymer is prepared by an anionic copolymerization process. The copolymer is useful for preparing a solid electrolyte having good mechanical properties, a good cationic conductivity and a good chemical compatibility with the electrodes of a generator operating with alkali metals such as lithium and sodium.

The present invention relates to novel macromolecular materials constituted by a salt in solution in a copolymer of ethylene oxide and of a second monomeric unit the structure of which preserves on the chain a polyether structure.
