A new Poinsettia cultivar, distinguished by intense dark red bracts and intense dark green foliage with self-branching characteristics, is described herein. The new plant produces a very desirable pinched, branched flowering potted plant. Equally desirable, the new plant is resistant to become epinastic after being confined to shipping containers, and recovers rapidly if the plant does become epinastic. The post-production foliage and bract retention is excellent even under low light intensities in the consumer's home.

Poinsettia plant named Lilo

A technique is described by which plant growth characters are altered in poinsettias. In particular, the branching characteristics of restricted branching cultivars are altered by grafting their scions onto understock plants which are free branching. Stem diameters, internode lengths, number of cuttings, leaf morphology and dates of flowering are altered as the new scion grows after the graft has become established and consequently new cultivars are created by growing cuttings from the new scion. These changes, as a result of these graft unions, are permanent over many generations of the new cultivar and these changes are uniform among the new plants.

Process for altering poinsettia growth characteristics

A new, red poinsettia plant having the overall beauty of the Eckespoint C-1 Red (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 2923) and being especially distinguished by blooming at least two weeks earlier, a characteristic made possible by growing at the lower temperature, 15.degree. to 17.degree. C., of the Annette Hegg line of poinsettias. This variety has abundant foliage of a noticeably darker color than that usually found in common commercial varieties and its bright red, tightly centered and imbricated bracts provide a full and compact display of color above the sharply contrasting foliage when the plant is in full bloom.

Poinsettia plant named R-13

A new pink poinsettia of the 'curly' type which originated as a hybrid seedling and is distinguished by the extraordinary shape of its leaves and bracts which grow abundantly on strong, straight stems of medium height. The wide bracts overlap each other in a more-or-less counterclockwise fashion and form a round cushion-like appearance atop a column of many green leaves carried on a relatively heavy stem.

Poinsettia named Pink Curly

A new poinsettia cultivar of the curly type originating as a hybrid seedling and being distinguished by the dark red color of its bracts and the unique shape of the leaves and bracts which are abundant in number and are carried on strong, straight stems of medium height, the bracts being in a generally imbricated arrangement and forming a round cushion-like appearance with a diameter of from about 5 to 71/2 inches.

Poinsettia named Red Curly

A new variety of poinsettia plant of the 'curly' type distinguished by the shape of its leaves and bracts, the yellowish white color of the bracts, and by its vigorous growth habit with little tendency to branch.

Poinsettia named White Curly

A new white poinsettia cultivar orginated as a mutation of V-14 Pink (application Ser. No. 185,121 filed Sept. 5, 1980 and now U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,808 and having substantially the same physical characteristics and habits as the parent plant.

A new poinsettia cultivar having the unique physical and growth characteristics of the variety named Poinsettia V-14 (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,384), now named Glory, except that this new plant has its red bracts flecked and streaked with pink.

Variegated poinsettia named V-14 JB

A new poinsettia cultivar which is substantially the same as the variety Gutbier's V-10 (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,235) with respect to form, growth and blooming habits, differing only that this new variety has a pleasing and distinctive pink coloration of its bracts.

A new and distinctive variety of poinsettia plant distinguished by the distinctive coloration of its bracts, which are marbled with shades of white and pink, and further characterized by being substantially identical with the red GUTBIER'S V-10 (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,235) except with respect to color of the bracts.
